101. it was the wrong thing to do - Edwards is trying to bring everyone together
and this was not the time to boo anyone unless it was George Bush.

I put on the Obama Daily News each night, so I support Obama,
but when you get an endorsement like this, its a good idea to be gracious.

122. I saw Senator Obama put out his hand to quiet the
booing. I'd have to see it again, but I think he shook his head "no" at them, too. I was glad to see it, and I'm very glad John Edwards praised Hillary. He sounded completely sincere, too. And notice that Barack included Hillary every time he talked about having one unified America, that Hillary wanted this, too. It was well done, I think. They can't abandon her, no matter how divisive her campaign has been.

149. Southerners don't rub it in when they are ahead, Edwards is showing graciousness
Edwards will be a huge assett in bringing the party back together because
he has southern manners. He can be a shark when he needs to be, but he
is a smart politician and a gracious man.

Now is not the time to be booing anyone, when we are trying to undo
the damage of this very divisive primary.

In spite of the horror of the primary, much of it toughened Obama up
and made him a better candidate in preparation for the GE>

134. There is a lot of pent up anger at Clinton here, bibaby...
the booing is bad, but MANY are
angry at the attempted front-loading
of the "primary" here, and how it
was FORCED upon the voters, who
subsequently did NOT get to have
a valid primary.

It has been simmering at ALL of the
dem functions I've attended.

If you can believe it, not much
is said between the two factions...
it was BOUND to spill out somewhere.

That if Obama's name was brought up at a Clinton rally that the mention of his name would not have been booed by Hillary supporters? If people get their undies in a bind over something like booing, they are way too sensitive compared to other things that have been said and done in this campaign.

Lord knows I've gotten a little caught up in the moment myself, and I can recall some comments of hers that may have caused me to boo at any given point in time. In the end, though, hopefully there isn't any long term acrimony, and in terms of preparing for the G.E. that's what matters most, the ability to forgive the short-term acrimonies and blips on both sides to look towards the future.

And not a second until then.

EDIT: I do acknowledge that Obama-supporters' opinions differ on this issue, of course. I don't think the difference has anything to do with classiness - just a different appreciation of what a competition is all about.

Now if Obama people were booing her AFTER she had conceded, then I would agree with you on the lack of classiness thing.

116. Things like class...
... go out the window when you realize some delusional narcissist is willing to damage the whole party rather than face the blatant, obvious truth that she HAS LOST.

HRC is ruining what tenuous reputation she had. She will look back on this time someday and wonder what she was thinking.

52. It's a political rally -- some people booed the opponent -- so what
Some of you people need to grow up -- this has been going on since time immemorial in politics.

Now, if people booed her during her speech when she drops out, that would show no class.

My God -- if your skins are that thin, you really need to stay away from politics -- and any competition, for that matter. Stick with T-ball or something.

I understand why it happened; it'd be like asking Redskins fans to cheer the Cowboys at a Redskins game, so, while I didn't like it, in context of WHAT the event was, it's understandable.

Besides, they did come around and cheered her, and I think it ended up being a really wonderful moment.

I have not gone to an Obama rally but if I did, I would not boo her when her name came up. Boo McCain but don't boo someone that's on the same team. The primary contest is like the competition between who will be starting quarterback on a football team. They are still teammates in the big picture and it's important not to forget that. 154. Do you like McCain as much as you like Hillary? Do you think they are alike?
If you could support like McCain, then I truly question why you ever supported Hillary Clinton.
DO you think McCain is a good substitute for Hillary?

If you are one of those people who thinks Obama is a "secret muslim"
or some other kookie shit, then that statement fits. I will assume you
subscribe to some weird right wing newsletter.

I think though that you are just angry and are willing to cut off your nose
to spite your face.

The idea that you would voluntarily hand our country over to the third Bush
term is horrible.

Its as if you think that Barack burglarized Hillary out of the nomination.

Its just not so. He worked hard, he registered voters, he ran an intensive campaign
and had alot of support. I never heard of him before and then I had to pick from
him or Edwards. I hadn't made up my mind and Edwards dropped out, way before our
primary.

Obama and Edwards ran on the Change theme.

The most important thing to voters was change - that was the overriding theme.

With the two of them running on the same message, the vote was split. Edwards was trailing
so he dropped out. He was the right person at the wrong time.

Hillary approached the primary with "experience", and unfortunately that wasn't what
resounded with the majority of voters. Experience might have been the right message back
in 2000. But now voters wanted to completely change Washington, just empty out and start over.

Further, her campaign advisors did her no justice.

110. I just cannot see any of those people as my "fellow" anything
after some of the attacks on older (and sometimes younger) women, gays, and poor people who voted for Hillary in the primaries have had to endure. I've been personally offended (which isn't easy to do) by the depictions of Hillary being burned at the stake, mentions of putting her down like she's a horse, and mentions of other violence toward women. It's been like being told I deserved to be raped all over again by people I had thought were my friends. Even my aunt said she will not vote for him because of this stuff. That's really something else, because she NEVER votes for anyone other than Democrats in the general election.

133. Thanks
It's hard out here for a Hillary supporter. Intellectually, I know that Obama's the nominee, but it still feels almost like piling on now that everyone from Edwards to NARAL to the crowds are abandoning Clinton.Obama's got to find a way to win over Hillary supporters in order to defeat McCain, not alienate them further.

139. As much as I disagreed, I certainly can see why they booed, just as at a HRC rally, they booed Obama
I think it was the PA rally where people booed Obama when HRC mentioned his name.

BFD...

But I'm glad to hear that there were some chiding words from Obama, as I understand it.

153. The boos were heard but they came from a far smaller number of
mouths than the majority who had there gathered, and what is most noticeable about the footage to me is that John Edwards persevered with his praise for Sen. Clinton, allowing the boo-birds' neighbors and seat-mates to hush them up while he spoke, and more to the point, while he asserted that she is a Democrat worthy of praise.

Imagine if George W. Bush behaved as well in circumstances over the last 8 years as John Edwards behaved in 10 minutes in Grand Rapids today.

Once the boo-birds were hushed, the grown-ups could get on with the day's business, but in addition to the endorsement of Senator Obama, Edwards praised Sen. Clinton and her supporters, and he set the praise in the context of the larger landscape we have to navigate in to defeat McCain and win many down-ballot victories.

I thought it was yet another outstanding performance by both the Senators I saw on that stage in the footage, and my guess is those Michigan Democrats who showed up to hear them thought so too.

155. They did boo originally but she got nice applause as the speech went on.
They applauded quite a bit as Edwards ran down the list of her accomplishments. And Barack did wave them down when they were booing.

156. Jesus. Get over it. Have you ever been to a political rally?
She's continuing to divide and ruin this party, and people are pissed off about that. This too shall pass. Is it "classy?" No. It's human. And Clinton supporters will happily boo Obama. It happens at every damn rally I've ever been to.

157. Hey, it got better as he continued. It's an OBAMA rally, and she's done a lot to piss people
off. So at a political rally you get that kind of emotion. But as Edwards proceeded, it got much "friendlier" as you can see. Don't worry yourself. Come June everyone will kiss and make up.

161. Yikes - doesn't it tell you something?? She obviously has outstayed her welcome !
I bet you wouldn't have a single boo if she had dropped out when
she should have - March 7th after Texas. she's just plain
horrible. But, it is entirely her own fault - chosing to
be self-serving and Machiavellian - people feel that everywhere.

164. I think stony silence would have gotten their point across effectively.
It made me cringe to hear actual boos. I wish both Obama and Edwards had cut it off more quickly, with a vocal, NO, from each of them. :(
