OK, let's try again, more gently: Can we posit that someone who will
refuse to vote for a specific candidate because one (or more) of his names "don't sound American (for which read that name or those names don't sound white"), is probably ignorant, and just possibly racist as well?

Not because of his or her positions on important issues. No, because of his or her name.

Can we agree on that? And that there are far too many people in America, even now in the 21st century, who think like that?

Just thought I'd ask.

Redstone

(Note: No given level of formal education, or lack thereof, is implied to result in ignorance in this post. People can end up being just as ignorant, on a life level, with a Ph.D as they might having dropped out after fourth grade.)

This IS America, love it or leave it, you fucking asswhipe. Isn't that what you fucking rednecks always scream? Love it or leave it?

Well right back at ya, pardner.

That's right, WE THE PEOPLE just elected a black man. So the fuck what?

Get used to it. You ain't in Kansas anymore, Dorothy.

The world has changed and your kind are freaking dinosaurs going extinct.

America, love it or leave it. Damn straight.

4. Of course you are correct.
Ignorance has nothing to do with intelligence, there are plenty of folks that prefer not knowing, that prefer being ill informed.

I have a friend that won't vote for Obama because of his name and she has stopped me cold in my tracks if I try to give her the facts. There is no discussing it.

8. Merh, sweets, it's been too long since we've talked. Tell me how that new
house has been working out for you, cher, would you?

Your friend sounds like some woman I saw in a video clip and talked about in my (locked) post here:

They prefer not knowing, indeed. As will they always, much to the regret of our country.

5. My dear Redstone...
You are quite right, unfortunately...

There are many people who would withhold their vote from someone whose name doesn't sound American, whatever the hell that means...

I would certainly agree that anyone taking that position would be ignorant and racist as well...

It will always be so, but with Obama's election, quite a few barriers will fall...

Time is the great teacher, IMHO...

7. It's a little more than "doesn't sound American"
The Governor of Illinois (whose name I can neither spell nor pronounce) has a name that "doesn't sound American". The last name "Obama" sounds remarkably similar to that of the terrorist Osama Bin Laden. The middle name is shared with Saddam Hussein.

You'll note the stickers and shirts yielded on CafePress http://www.cafepress.com/buy/Osama+obama/-/go_1

I agree that ignorant people think like that. I also realize that intelligent, calculating opponents of Obama will use that against him.
