ENOUGH!!!
Just STOP IT!

The Primaries are all but over, with less than three weeks to go until everyone will have voted. Something will be done about Florida and Michigan, and all of the bitching (not used in a gender-specific way, as I am the king of bitching) about them from people here will not change how the rules committee and the DNC decide on how - or IF - they are seated.

Hillary Clinton is NOT a racist (even if some in her campaign have exploited certain racist tendencies from certain voters). Hillary is NOT an evil person (even if some might view her close corporate ties as a sign of her evil ways).

Barack Obama is NOT the leader of some cult (even if some of his backers act a bit star-struck and defensive on occasion). Obama is NOT a clone of his former pastor (despite a long history of a very close relationship with the man).

Hillary IS a very intelligent person who really does have the best interests of America in mind.

Obama IS a very intelligent person who really does have the best interests of America in mind.

Both candidates are great leaders for the Democratic party and would make excellent Presidents. And just because you favor one over the other does NOT mean you have the right - or even the slightest justification - to slam the other with baseless accusations or flimsy arguments related to non-issues (like whether or not there was sniper fire in Bosnia or whether someone is wearing a god damn lapel pin).

Now I don't post much on here any more, and haven't for several years. But that does not mean I'm not around. I've been reading the constant bickering around here for months. I've tolerated it because the primaries were still in doubt. Well, there is very little doubt now and there is no reason for this to continue. So stop taking cheap shots at the other Dem candidates. All you are doing is dividing our community here and the party as a whole. And I, for one, am sick and damn tired of it.

7. If I may be so bold
and with all due respect to my fello du-ers, especially because I am so new. I suggest we all begin trying to find our own center and try to unify, the way both of our candidates have pledged to do. The real question we must ask ourselves is, what will another Republican presidency do to our country and our children.

10. I'm not in love with Clinton OR Obama
Edited on Thu May-15-08 09:46 AM by crankychatter
I don't believe the above statements are wholly accurate regarding either one of them.

I support Kucinich's foreign policy and health care plan.

I don't believe for one minute that the corporatist center of the Democratic Party is actually representative of Democratic principles. They're corrupt.

I support full public campaign financing. We have to BREAK the symbiosis between our elected officials and transnational corporations...

OR

We will never restore representative government in this country.

I will defend the Democratic nominee with FLAME THROWERS, if that person achieves their status with respect to the voters. Otherwise there will be hell to pay. I may still support the nominee... just because I'm an unteachable old mule... not because it's the right thing to do.

I do NOT UNDERSTAND all these pleas for "unity." I don't get it. You're either a Democrat or you're not.

The Primary fight is NOT OVER. It's NOT OVER. Clinton camp says they want a goddamn Convention FLOOR FIGHT?

WHATEVER THAT IS, it AIN'T "over." Hell, it's the destruction of the Party in a year we need more than EVER to take down the Neocon Junta.

Unity? Who the HELL is Clinton working for? Not the people of New York and not the Democratic Party, I'll tell ya.

23. Yes and Yes
"I really enjoy seeing everyone else having an opportunity to vote. Did you vote? Do you want others to vote?"

Yes, I voted. And yes, I want everyone to have their opportunity to vote. But that has nothing to do with all of the negative shit-slinging (it's gone way beyond mud-slinging) I've seen around here. There are far too many here who seem to rejoice in the negativity, or, at the very least, to be more willing to bash the other candidate and their backers than to praise their own. Didn't everyone's mother tell them "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything"? Well guess what - now is the time to put that advice to good use.

I truly wish I could lay blame for this on trolls and FReepers, but I've seen the same behavior from people who have been here longer than I and it sickens me. So I say, "ENOUGH!" I've had it up to eye level with it and if some here were a child, I would suggest it's time for that rare spanking.

but hell... how can we stop criticizing her & her campaign when she keeps pulling this crap? I thought we'd be doing the "unity" thing after NC and IN... that she'd stop with this stuff and just do a positive "vote for me" campaign, and stop the trashing.

In the days before the net and 24/7 news coverage, losing campaigns and candidates couldn't possibly have been so goddamn all-fired fucking irritating! Sadly (for her campaign, and unity) we're now in the age where this stuff gets old FAST.

31. Sigh
This kind of thing just hurts my head.

Did I - ONCE - give the impression I was on the "side" of either candidate? If I did, it was beyond my grasp, as I tried hard to avoid that. It does not matter who I prefer. What matters is that the negativity here in DU toward our own candidates needs to stop. I don't give a rat's ass which side you're on, just stop it. I understand you are frustrated. I understand that you feel Hillary should just go away. That does not mean you need to take it out on your fellow DU'ers.

But no, you claim it's all Hillary's fault. Others claim it's all Obama's fault. You know what? It's YOUR FAULT. And it's the Clinton SUPPORTER'S FAULT. Don't blame the candidate because someone here said something you didn't like. And by responding in kind, you are just as bad as they are. And then you take it out on those of us who would prefer that we all rise above the fray and limit our debates to topics actually worth debating (like, oh, I don't know - a discussion of Hillary's preferred plan of cutting out the gas tax, or a comparison of the two health care plans).

But you go right ahead. Call my post "bullshit" and berate me for asking people to be civil. If you don't see that you - and your opposites in the other camp - are exactly the ones to whom I'm talking, then perhaps I made a mistake in thinking the majority here are too intelligent to fall into the classic Republican trap of taking it below the gutter.

And did ANY of you (especially those on the Obama side) think for a second that if you turned your attention away from Hillary and toward McCain that just maybe you would start to marginalize her candidacy and help move her toward the end you seem to prefer (her dropping out)? By feeding this argument, you are continually giving her the attention she MUST have in order to continue. You are legitimizing her continued candidacy.
