Sweetie don't call me Sweetie
Edited on Thu May-15-08 11:23 AM by JimmyJubes
During the course of this election we had some really offensive things said by the candidates- but the one thing that the media should not dismiss is Obama calling a reporter “Sweetie”. Now I know that when females call me “Sweetie” or “Honey” it makes me feel so upset that I go home and eat five cups of ice cream and watch Waiting To Exhale for the umpteenth time –and then cry myself to sleep, so I can only imagine the pain that Peggy Agar is feeling. This is worse than when that lady Mika (don’t feel like looking up her unpronounceable last name- but she is the one who talks about why you shouldn’t talk about Paris Hilton for an hour a day on MSNBC) said Barack Obama evolved. I hope the media keeps the focus on what really matters most to the American public like what radical statement Obama’s postman might have said or what kind of dancing skills Bush has. These are after all the most pressing issues facing our country today.

6. I think it depends on the context of "Sweetie".
My brother and his wife are Sufis. They call each other "Sweetie", both call me "Sweetie", and call their acquaintances "Sweetie". I would imagine they would not address someone in a formal situation such as a politician to a reporter by that appellation.

11. "Sweetie" WAS IN RESPONSE to a question about the economy!
Q: "What are you going to do to help the American auto worker?"

A: "Wait a minute, Sweetie..." (no answer was ever given.)

13. It wasn't a press conference, sweetie.
I'm sure other reporters asked questions they didn't get answers to.

She could have checked his website for his plans to help American workers... just another lazy "journalist"... but she's got her 15 minutes!

18. I don't believe that YOU believe what you're saying--Obama can appear at an auto plant
for a photo op, but has no obligation to talk about what he would do to help the workers at that plant?

Displaced workers: Smile for the camera, shut up, and go to my web site if you have any further questions!

Edited on Thu May-15-08 11:29 AM by The_Counsel
Just when I thought we couldn't find a stupider thing to give Obama a hard time about than a 99-cent flag pin, we're actually obsessing over him addressing a reporter as "sweetie?" Really?

I MIGHT see a problem if said reporter were a MAN, but really guys ... isn't this just silly?

Oh wait: Obama did say months ago that this was the "silly season." This is one time I desperately wish he was wrong.

I guess it's just a habit from being around the girls. Obama lives in a house full of women..... it can become habit.

28. I do more 'Hon' and 'Babe' than 'sweetie'
one less syllable to mess with (and I live in a house full of men), 'Dear' gets out there too.

Although I might utter a 'bud' or 'pal' if we aren't as close acquaintances.

I'm defiantly not cut out for a life in politics x(

Can't help it.... it's what I've called my husband since we started dating. Occasionally it pops out of my mouth at some awkward moments. Oh well........ nobody has ever been offended by it.

Politics is definitely not in my future! I'd be "hon"ing people.......... and forget it if my teenage or early 20's escapades were to surface :)

It was actually a case where she was deserving of an apology (which he gave) but my point is that the media makes issues out of nonissues and fails to cover what is important.
