Joe Biden kicks ass! Calls Bush's comments "Bullshit"!

Biden: Bush's comments were 'bullshit'

Sen. Joe Biden, piling on to Democratic complaints about President Bush’s speech in Israel today:

“This is bullshit, this is malarkey. This is outrageous, for the president of the United States to go to a foreign country, to sit in the Knesset . . . and make this kind of ridiculous statement.”

“He is the guy who has weakened us,” he said. “He has increased the number of terrorists in the world. It is his policies that have produced this vulnerability that the U.S. has. It’s his intelligence community has pointed this out, not me.”

Biden noted that Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice have both suggested that the United States ought to find a way to talk more with its enemies.

"If he thinks this is appeasement, is he going to come back and fire his own cabinet?” Biden asked. “Is he going to fire Condi Rice?”

21. Yep - Dems are less afraid to stand up to Bush this goround. Few would in 2003-4.
Glad Joe let himself loose. He's a good fighter when he wants to join the fight.

31. Joe's never been afraid --
He told Rumsfeld he'd fire him if he could, and turned to Cheney and said "and Mr. Vice President, I'd fire you, too."

50. Joe wasn't acting out of fear in 2003-4, he made a promise to Bush that he wouldn't
'politicize' Iraq war and unfortunately kept that promise till fall/2004.

Most other Dems held their tongues out of fear, and, of course, there were also a number of Dems who actually agreed with Bush's decisions and sided with him publicly throughout 2003-4, especially Bill Clinton.

I knee-jerk reacted in a flashback to when I was constantly (it seems) standing up for Joe when he was still in the race.

Sorry! :pals:

EDIT to add -- and like most knee-jerk responses, I misinterpreted what it was you were saying. Really -- sorry again. :(

41. Yeah, getting funding for MRAPs didn't help anyone - how selfish of Biden
http://www.reuters.com/article/politicsNews/idUSN0134954620071002

<snip>

As written by the Senate Armed Services Committee, the $648 billion bill already included $4.1 billion for Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, whose V-shaped hulls can dramatically reduce U.S. troop deaths from roadside bombs.

But senators approved an amendment by Sen. Joe Biden, a Delaware Democrat and chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations committee, that adds $23.6 billion in funding for the vehicles.

That funding level would allow the U.S. Army to replace all of its up-armored humvees in Iraq with MRAPs, Biden said.

He said roadside bombs are responsible for 70 percent of U.S. troop deaths in Iraq, and MRAPs could reduce those deaths by more than two-thirds.

"We have no higher obligation than to protect those we send to the front lines," Biden said in a statement. "While we argue in Washington about the best course of action in Iraq, our troops on the ground face improvised explosive devices, rocket propelled grenades, explosively formed penetrators, sniper fire, and suicide bombers every day."

<snip>

47. Let me help your 'professionally-trained' brain
Biden has been a US Senator for over 16 years. He has more that the bankruptcy bill vote under his belt. Before you slam the man's entire career with one not so witty comment, go research what he's done (and why).

Being able to type a smart-assed comment on DU doesn't make you a smart person.

And despite being an ardent Biden supporter, and taking into consideration one of his State's largest employers was the CC companies, that vote has always bothered me a LOT. Since then, I honestly believe he's more than atoned. There are only a few of Biden's votes that I find fault with, and considering how many he's cast over his long career...

59. A lot of that might depend on whether or not Mike Castle has Senate ambitions
Delaware is a blue state but Congressman-at-large Mike Castle is pretty popular. Granted he's 68 and that's a bit late to start a Senate career, but hey McGramps is older and he's running for President. The NRSC will try very hard to recruit Castle and he would be very formidable especially in a midterm election where the President's party usually has a disadvantage.

Also a question of whether Democrats have anybody to run against Castle if Biden's seat is vacated.
