Jim McDermott endorses Obama
Edited on Thu May-15-08 11:44 AM by Upton
From my home state of Wa., Rep. Jim McDermott (Seattle) has finally gotten off the fence and endorsed the next POTUS Barack Obama. McDermott joins at least four other Washington superdelegates who have endorsed Obama: Gov. Chris Gregoire, Reps. Rick Larsen, Adam Smith and Brian Baird (my congressman).

McDermott a vocal critic of the war from the beginning said:

"I am confident as president he will end the war in Iraq and bring our sons and daughters home."

1. Well he had a personal reason to wait
Bill Clinton came and did a fund raiser for him to help him retire legal bills.

This actually makes it doubly obvious to the Clintons that we are in the clean up stage.

3. Let's get this straight...NO President is going to bring the troops home...
...at least not right away. The situation is still too unstable.

10. It has nothing to do with the stability
it's all about the money.

That's why Obama voted to fund the Iraq war twice to the tune of 300 billion dollars.

Yes I know... with timelines..

CWA President, A Super-Delegate, Will Endorse Obama:

Larry Cohen, the president of the Communication Workers of America and a super-delegate from D.C., will endorse Obama today, CWA's communications office confirms to me.

6. Health Care
I remember during Bill's first term, McDermott opposed the Clinton Health Plan. McDermott (along with Wellstone) were pushing for a Canadian style single-payer plan over the Clinton plan which called for entrenching the insurance companies and sending everyone to an HMO. At the time I was rooting for a Wellstone/McDermott ticket in 96

7. I love Baghdad Jim but his timing is not good. Being compared to Nazi appeasers by McBush today.
Maybe there's enough going on that this will go under the radar.
Maybe i"m wrong since it will all run together rather than a second opportunity to trash Barack.

8. Welcome

McDermott is my congresscritter and is safe of course.. Usually gets 60-70% of the vote.

Is Baird pretty safe in your district?

If so you can join us in helping Darcy Burner defeat Reichert in the 8th District! hey we can help other districts! :)

We can can push forward with the utter elimination of the GOP in WA state if we can get Reichert defeated. :)

PS. Do you know how Inslee stands at this time? I saw him with Amb Wilson in Shoreline back in 03 revealing the yellow cake lies by Bush and Rove. (Amb Wilson is charismatic beyond belief.)

11. Yeah Baird's safe
he's won over 60% of the vote the last 3 elections (63% in 2006). Inslee is still supporting Clinton, along with Murray, Cantwell, Dicks and Sims.

12. That's what i thought. but wasn't sure.
Especially after Amb Wilson raked Sen Obama over the coals concerning the Iranian Republican Guard imbroglio.

13. Finally!
I've been calling Jim's office for months now (he's my congressman). GREAT NEWS - thanks Jim! I've also been working on my two Senators to switch, and I think of the two, Maria Cantwell might be the most likely to do so.

Keep the flood coming !

14. Cantwell
is a member of the Pelosi Club which means she'll go with the winner of the pledged delegates. Who knows what's going on with Murray, I think her friendship with Clinton is causing her to deny the inevitable.

16. I have a hunch that Jim's been an unannounced supporter just waiting for a go ahead
from the campaign. He's my rep and I don't see him as ever having been on the fence about this one. The Obama camp has said all along that they've had unannounced endorsements waiting in the wings. I'd bet money Jim was one of those.
