On M$NBC: Clinton Aides - We Know The Reality
Andrea Mitchell reporting on the Clinton camp said some of her top aides admit it's over and she now knows she can't win. Jonathan Alter was just saying the same thing, that she is just going through the motions now. Interesting point, considering her statement yesterday. I think a few weeks ago her reaction might have been a lot different.

1. Judging from the talking points of her supporters, she's angling for VP. nt

2. Judging by their talking points, she's demanding it.
Again, acting entitled to it.

16. where are you getting that? Or just making up more stuff to hate Clinton for?
She eats puppies too...there you go. You could spend a whole day in a tizzy-over-her on that one.

Maybe you've missed the many threads proclaiming that she cannot be kept off the ticket, if she wants it.

I'm not making anything up, only reading what Clinton supporters have been saying the past 2 days.

20. Obama can't win with Hill on the ticket. Can't win. That's the end of it.
NOBODY has expressed the hands down VP insurance guy. I would guess the campaign head knows. The campaign has been run spectacularly.

29. So, I read the two posts you provided and no where does it say that
Clinton is demanding it. Indeed the posts are a couple of people with ideas on her being the VP or scenarios at the convention.

Not once have I heard that Clinton is demanding the VP slot.

31. I didn't say she was , I said judging by the supporters posts.
I should have been clearer. Sorry for the confusion. I don't think that she actually is demanding it. But, some of her supporters are arguing that it is hers, by right, if she wants it.

I am not even sure she wants it, to be honest.

3. If she was on the ticket...
how would Obama defend himself when McCain plays the video of Hillary saying she thinks McCain is more qualified than Obama to be President? Talk about shooting the party in the foot.

5. Not to mention being a down-ticket apocalypse.
She's the polar opposite of the 50 state strategy, a triangulating DLC liar and the most hated woman on the face of the earth.

are more screwed down-ticket than they are in the Presidential campaign to be quite honest. There's been so much scrutiny on Clinton and Obama that McCain stands a better chance than he should but some of these special elections prove that at the local level where there's less scrutiny, the Dems are kicking ass in Rethug strongholds. I still don't see how Obama could effectively run against a candidate that his potential running mate has claimed is more qualified to be President than Obama.

15. As an Obama supporter
I don't think Ms. Clinton is even close to be "the most hated woman on the face of the earth." She is beloved by many, admired by even more, and is a great leader for our party. I disagree with her on a lot of issues, but come on.

11. She will not be the VP
He cannot run with a message of change and a new method of doing Washington politics, a method which is beyond the bitter divisive partisan politics of the past, while naming one of the most divisive figures in US history as his running mate.

4. It is about the money now
As long as she is in she can try to raise money
so she has to keep "playing the game."

If Obama keeps picking up delegates and endorsements
like he has he will be @ 2025 very soon and the closer
he gets to that # the more the super delegates will come
out for him or flip from Hillary to him.

Dan Abrams was making the case last night and it looks like a good chunk of her supporters are advocating for Hillary as th VP today.

28. If something happens to Obama I would hope
someone like Edwards would re-enter the race and take it to the convention. Obama delegates would be free to vote for anybody they wish. But hopefully nothing bad will happen to Obama (it is very unlikely) so he will go on to accept the nomination and win in November.

Edited on Fri May-16-08 09:32 AM by olkaz
The idea that Hillary is going to hover overhead like a vulture, just waiting for something to happen to our nominee is just about as distasteful as it gets.

And if something did happen, I want John Edwards.

No more Clintons, ever.

10. "Going through the motions" = fundraising continues, nothing being spent.
Debt sucks. I hope Obama and her reach some kind of truce so he can help offset her debts and get her on board.

As Secretary of State. She can't be VP. There'd be three presidents in the room (her, him, Bill). Disaster.

18. Well, obviously he needs to do whatever is smartest.
But 1. Clinton has a lot of loyal supporters who we need in the general, 2. She's really goddam smart and would do well in a Cabinet position, and 3. Like it or lump it, but her people going all the way back to '92 have a number of states wired tight and ready to rock. She didn't win PA and WV by accident; they have had networks there for 16 years.

Besides, I don't give a wet shit if people get all spazzed out because Obama wisely makes a peace offering to shore up the strength of one of the party's heaviest hitters. We need her, and if helping to beat down her debts is how to do it, so be it.

I have a funny feeling President Obama *knock wood, please god* is going to wind up pissing off a lot of people around here by smoothing rough spots and making peace when needed. The best sign that a good deal went down is when neither side is happy. If you think Clinton likes the idea of getting bailed out by the guy who beat her, you're goofy.

Win first. The Obama fundraising machine has been good for $30-40 million a month, and that's with half the available Dem money going to Clinton's campaign. Once we do the convention, he's going to be swimming in finances, and McCain will get his doors blown off before Labor Day. A little coin to ice down the party's bruises and kick in her network is money well spent.

26. Well when you put it that way...
it sounds fine. Let's just hope they're not under-reporting those debts by a large margin. I hope Obama opts out of federal financing against McCain. I think with the entire party behind him, he could raise double the $85 million that McCain will get from the government.

32. oh for pete's sake. Are you ever going to face reality?
Why don't you face the fact that SDs are flooding in for Obama? Do you realize that he now needs only 126 total delegates to put him at 2025? Do you understand that by next Wednesday, he'll only need about 50 more? Do you comprehend how crippling it is for hillary to be 20 million+ in debt? I know you won't face these things, but your sticking your head in the sand is just ridiculous.
