1. I just listened to the conference call a little while
ago, and I just don't see what the big deal is. She didn't encourage anyone to "drag" their children anywhere. The woman said she was taking her kids with her because she wanted her family represented and counted as they are from Michigan. It's interesting for children to see democracy in action. People take their kids to anti-war protests all the time. What IS the big deal here?

If Obama had a conference call for bloggers who supported him, I'm sure you would be quite happy. Maybe that's the problem here. Do you wish Obama would have a conference call and talk to you?

3. I didn't listen to the entire conference call,
but if your portrayal is accurate, I would agree with you.

And I just posted on another thread that if my candidate asked me to take to the blogs, I'd do it. Not a hit an run to blanket all the blogs, but I'd present the argument on the blogs I frequented.

7. Yes, that's exactly what happened. The woman
blogger said she was bringing her children with her to the rules committee meeting because she wanted her family (from Michigan) to be counted.

My take on the call was that it was a way for Hillary's active online supporters to interact with her. It was actually quite interesting, and I'm glad someone posted the link so I was able to hear it. The bloggers who got to talk to her were very excited. She wasn't manipulating them in any way, as some here have said. These bloggers have already been supporting her online for a long time. And what Hillary said during the call has already been argued by her online supporters for weeks. It wasn't some kind of online call-to-arms or a directive to swarm political sites in support of her. It was great for her supporters (who have put so much online work into her campaign) to get to talk with her, even if it was only for a very short time.

16. Thank you liquorice for some rationality that is not fueled by people's
hatered of Hillary. I really think some people on these boards are taking it all to personally. No one should HATE anyone on either side over this stuff. I'm sure if Obama had had the conference call they would think it was nice. It seems like a harmless idea to have the call, buck up the troops. Most of her supporters are pretty down right now having realized it is probably over, so it's nice to have her speak to people who have blogs (I've never been one for checking or reading blogs though).

Edited on Sat May-17-08 03:28 AM by musicblind
how dare you imply otherwise. I did not listen to her conference call, I have been very unbaised on these boards, praising and donating to multiple candidates. I have supported both Edwards and Hillary and also pointed out that I think Obama is an excellent candidate and will be supporting him in the GE. How dare you accuse anyone who happens to disagree with you of being an employee for Hillary's campaign. I have never spoken to Hillary or even been to hear her speak. I have seen Bill Clinton give a speech on one occasion. I have never even been inside her campaign headquarters. I'm the one who made a very LONG detailed thread PRAISING John Edwards after his endorsement of Obama. ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x5975678 ) I have stayed far less biased than the majority on this board, because I enjoy aspects from both of the candidates. To claim that I am working for her campaign because I contend that there is no harm in her trying to boost the moral of her supporters via a conference call while she stays in this thing till June in hopes of getting a VP nod, or some other concession(hopefully a concession from Obama on health care. her best issue)
... to claim that is just preposterous.
I have never, in this entire primary season called an Obama supporter a single derogatory "name", I have never referred to people as cultist (and have stood in protest against those who have done so), and despite all of this you claim that I work for her CAMPAIGN because I disagree with you. That is hateful thinking, and such unfounded accusations are akin to Mccarthyism.

I have tried to treated everyone on this board with respect, as best I know how, and all I ask is that I be treated in the same way.

5. oh bullshit. She said the kids don't live in Michigan!
Some purported extended family is "from there" so she's dragging her kids the DNC rules meeting, even though she said in her posts at MYDD that she does not have enough money to attend the convention.

What EXACTLY are those kids supposed to do there? Break down and cry after their mother scares the shit out of them to make them do it?

34. I don't understand the outrage here.
Hillary was silent for about the first 3/4 of the woman's comment (she said she didn't have a question, but wanted to express her support for Hillary). After the woman told Hillary that this was what she planned to do, Hillary said that she thought getting kids involved in democracy and the political process was a good thing. I don't see anything particularly wrong with it, and in fact, some children love politics. Didn't Hillary in fact say in one of her bios that a big reason she wanted to be a Goldwater Girl was so she could wear the associated costume, which she thought was fun? As a disclaimer, I strongly support Obama's candidacy.

40. why is it beyond the pale?
I did the same sort of thing, "dragging" my daughter along to political meetings, protests, lectures, blah-de-blah-blah. Parents also "drag" their kids to church or art galleries or symphonies or grandma's. Part of raising children is to expose them to what you consider valuable, and to show them that you (and, thus, they) are members of a larger community in which we all have responsibilities.

I doubt very much that Obama would denigrate that woman's decision the way you have, or think poorly of Clinton for not engaging in mommy wars. I suspect that his view on childrearing is pretty much exactly the same as Clinton's. So why are you trying to stir up hate?
