Tim Johnson speaks from experience on Kennedy illness
In case anyone else is wondering whatever happened to Tim Johnson, the Democratic senator whose dramatic seizure nearly threw control of the Senate to the GOP:

Sen. Johnson Reacts To Sen. Kennedy's Seizure

May 17, 2008

Sen. Tim Johnson (D-S.D.), who suffered a brain hemorrhage in December 2006, has released a statement about Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's health situation:

"This is a difficult time for any family and brings back memories for my own family and me,"
Johnson said in a statement. "Ted is a friend and was source of support during my recovery. There is no doubt that he is a strong man and a fighter. As we wait for more information, our thoughts and prayers are with him, Vicki and the entire family. I look forward to being back on the Senate floor with him very soon."

Johnson's situation was much more dire than Kennedy's appears to be at this point, and Johnson's long hospitalization led to speculation about whether he would resign from the Senate and throw the balance of power back to Republicans in the evenly split chamber. Johnson has since recovered, but is still confined to a wheelchair.

Democrats face Senate loss as senator in coma

Friday, December 15, 2006

Shaheen Sehbai

WASHINGTON: Tim Johnson, the Senator from South Dakota whom the Pakistanis in America helped whole-heartedly to defeat Pakistan-hater Larry Pressler, was in a coma after a brain surgery in Washington, raising the possibility of Democrats losing the Senate to Republicans.

The 59-year old Johnson dramatically became disoriented during a conference call with journalists and suffered a stroke on Wednesday. He was rushed to the George Washington University Hospital where a tight security has been imposed with journalists not even allowed to enter the coffee shops.

If Senator Johnson is unable to resume his job, the Senate control would go back to Republicans because of the 50-50 split which allows the Vice President of the US to use his casting vote.

I know I know, shit happens, but why did it have to happen the day after Bushler decided to hit the headlines ginning up hate against the new terrist?

1. From Obama's statement yesterday:
"You know, as I have said many times before, Ted Kennedy is a giant in American political history. He has done more for the healthcare of others than just about anybody in history and so we are going to be rooting for him and I insist on being optimistic about how it's going to turn out."

Anyone know if Bill Clinton has said anything yet?
