Archbishop to Gov. Sebelius: Stop taking Communion, publicly apologize
http://primebuzz.kcstar.com/?q=node/11658

"...Naumann said he wrote to Sebelius in August and asked her to refrain from Communion but learned recently that she’d participated in the sacrament at a church in Topeka. He said he again wrote and asked her to respect his request and “not require from me any additional pastoral actions...."

He actually threatened her with further sanctions from the church for repeatedly vetoing anti-abortion legislation in Kansas.

I'm starting to like this lady.

Is she young enough to run in 2016 effectively?

If Kansas is SO irretrievably RED... how could they have such a cool governor? A new Electoral Map is coming...

1. The Archbishop sounds like a big pussy to me.
I hope Gov. Sebelius stands her ground and tells the old coot what do to with his exclusional bullshit.

You go, girl.

2. Wow. What is the church thinking? We've got one of those
nutty archbishops out here, too. He even looks creepy, all pasty white and wears little round glasses.

13. LOL! If What's-His-Name trusts Mary Magdalen, it seems to me the
current crop of higher-ups could trust women to be priests.

5. Time to Tax the Church
The Catholic church, once all her assets have been put together, is the most formidable stockbroker in the world. The Vatican, independently of each successive pope, has been increasingly orientated towards the U.S. The Wall Street Journal said that the Vatican's financial deals in the U.S. alone were so big that very often it sold or bought gold in lots of a million or more dollars at one time.

"The Vatican's treasure of solid gold has been estimated by the United Nations World Magazine to amount to several billion dollars. A large bulk of this is stored in gold ingots with the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank, while banks in England and Switzerland hold the rest. But this is just a small portion of the wealth of the Vatican, which in the U.S. alone, is greater than that of the five wealthiest giant corporations of the country. When to that is added all the real estate, property, stocks and shares abroad, then the staggering accumulation of the wealth of the Catholic church becomes so formidable as to defy any rational assessment.

"The Catholic church is the biggest financial power, wealth accumulator and property owner in existence. She is a greater possessor of material riches than any other single institution, corporation, bank, giant trust, government or state of the whole globe. The pope, as the visible ruler of this immense amassment of wealth, is consequently the richest individual of the twentieth century. No one can realistically assess how much he is worth in terms of billions of dollars."

plus she's in incredible shape!

to contact her to express support.

8. That's been church law in the Catholic Church as far back as I can
remember. Same law applies to any divorced Catholics. The reason the Archbishop made his statements public is because SHE is a public figure.

12. Church sanctions of elected officials for public policy is a law in the R.C. Church?
I'm not a Catholic, but I don't think so.

19. No. The Church isn't sanctioning public policy, it's advising a public official
that she is a practicing Catholic, and as such, is not permitted to participate in the sacraments if she supports activities that are against Church law. The same would be directed to me if my pastor/archbishop were to find out that I suppored abortion, etc. If I were to be publicly speaking out on my opinions, I would also be publicly chastized. Don't you remember, Kerry received the same treatment.

22. It's not law
it's up to the individual bishop to decide. Kerry was never denied the sacrament, the issue was raised as mere politics. I have no doubt this also has to do with her being considered for VP at this time.

28. Oh, and he just HAPPENS to chime in now
that she is considered for a possible V.P. position. If the IRS investigated Rev. Wright's church for political statements, I say investigate this archbishop as well. Why chime in now and not much earlier? Why not wait until after the election. Sick em IRS!

17. I am kind of pleased that all Catholics are not alike. You gotcher Pope-down
Catholics and then you gotcher Francis-of-Assissi people&flowers Catholics (I like them the best, I think) and you gotcher Ted Kennedy Catholics who do battle for health care and education in politics, and then there's the charitable arm of the Church whose members labor almost anonymously for others' benefit and care.

Not least are the ancient monks up there in Ireland who copied down the texts of antiquity. A sacrficie and duty all at once, and a wonderful, priceless present to later ages.

20. This always happens
to Catholic elected officials. It is almost impossible to be a progrssive and not run up against the teachings of the church sooner or later. If they go so far as to excommunicate them, they usually become Episcopalians, and everyone is happy; lol.

I might take him seriously.

When he calls out every pro death penalty Republican in Kansas, I might take him seriously.

Until then, he's acting like a hypocrite.

He declines support for a Children's Hopital fundraiser because Sheryl Crow was going to perform. That was just one of his idiotic stances.
