1. Suggestion for a new option
"Only if my state is in play; otherwise I may cast a protest vote"

5. Combine 3rd party (Nader) and write in
Edited on Sun May-18-08 12:01 PM by democrattotheend
Make it "I will vote for a third party candidate or write someone in"

Either way it has the same effect. A lost vote for the Dem but not a vote for mcCain.

Also, you can include McKinney and Barr that way.

8. Actually, you can take out the first option too
Because it's kind of redundant. Better to have them clarify whether they'd vote McCain or just vote third party, write in, or stay home. Saying "no way under any circumstances" leaves that ambiguous.

Since dems need to come together, I am suspicious of these kinds of BS
suggestions. And Obama supporters aren't likely to push this stupid idea.
Nader supporters, McCain supporters... maybe.

21. Take into consideration that
people have been tombstoned according to how they voted in polls on DU. That will keep a certain amount from even voting, and can potentially make people vote different than what they will really do.

unenthusiastic yes. He is a great orator, but if he doesn't deliver a good deal about what he is telling us, than reelection will be quite difficult. If you don't believe me ask Jimmy Carter.

My only hope is, is that he gets seasoned individuals surrounding him in his administration--people that has been there done that.

Also, I only hope that he fights the GOP really hard this Fall. I felt let down on the way Kerry fought those 'Swift Boat Veterans' in tha last election.

20. I know. It reminds me of what Whoppi and Behar said on the
View. That they kind of almost wish McCain would win. They said, "he said he could fix
the bush mess, let's let him fix it."

You are so right. The mountain of Bush mess is higher than Everest. And there will be many waiting to
jump on his every little misstep. But, I have a lot of confidence in him and I think
he has effectively dealt with most stuff thrown at him instantly.

I think if he can get health care moving, get us out of Iraq, restore Habeas Corpus,
shut down Guantanamo, get moving on global warming, secure nukes, the world will
be so much better off. But, I do think that it will take a lot of courage for
either Hillary or Obama to stand up to the potential downside when we leave Iraq. Ironically, You
will see the bad stuff happening to innocent Iraqis on Fox every day - stuff you see nothing
of today.

I also, just can not wait for the first trip abroad and see people waving flags again
instead of burning them

28. What would you call the Obama supporters who said they wouldn't vote if Hillary won the nomination?
I saw quite a few people post that, and some said they wouldn't vote Democratic if she were even on the ticket as VP.

I'll vote for him, but I'll have very serious doubts about his judgment and his ability to unite the party if she isn't on the ticket. Not having her on the ticket is really going to hurt the Dems in the GE. I believe she'd be more likely to win the GE, too, and I think she's more qualified to be president.

I heard a talking head say this morning that Obama would look weak if he put her on the ticket. I believe he'll look weak if he doesn't -- it will look as though he's afraid of how strong a leader she is. It will also look as though he's turning his back on her supporters.

30. Would anyone else like to answer this question, since sfaprog hasn't?
Because I really would like to know.

I'm sure that if I went back and checked old topics for the Obama supporters who said they'd NEVER vote for the Democratic ticket if Hillary were the nominee or even the VP, I'd find quite a few DUers who've been very loud in their condemnations of Hillary supporters who say they won't vote for Obama.

So I would like to know if Obama supporters would say that all the DUers who'd announced they wouldn't vote Democratic if they had to vote for Hillary also showed that they aren't really Democrats.

I think it's a fair question.

45. Thanks for replying! I'd been dismayed by how many Obama supporters wouldn't vote Dem
if the nominee or VP turned out to be Clinton.

As for mixed feelings -- I have mixed feelings, too. I thought it said wonderful things about our party that both Clinton and Obama could do so well in the primaries. But I don't think any of us would have dreamed last year that there'd be this much anger on both sides, with this equal a division of the party between candidates who both mean so much to their supporters.

If we don't have a unity ticket, we are going to lose some Democratic voters. Maybe enough to cost us the election this time. And those people we'll lose are Democrats, just as the Obama supporters who announced they'd never vote for Clinton are Democrats.

They're just Democrats who identify too much with their own candidate and can't accept how many other Democrats support the other Democratic candidate.

23. yes, with a big caveat...
My vote for Obama is reluctant because I feel he's too inexperienced and it would be courting disaster. (Plus Michelle looks and sounds like my former, very evil boss)

However, every time McSame opens his mouth, I KNOW it will be certain disaster, so I cannot vote for him.

On the other hand, if my state ends up certain to go Obama, I will write-in, most likely Joe Biden.

I do seriously hope that Obama has a really good running mate. I still remember the first Kennedy assassination. The other side will stop at nothing.

Otherwise, no way.

I would have expected Hillary to offer Obama the VP spot if she had been on top. When 2 candidates have won almost half of the votes of the party respectively, it behooves the winning one to offer the other one the post.
