It bodes well for the GE, don't you think?

I'm glad that Obama showed enough political savvy to design his campaign based on the rules that were decided out by the DNC a long time ago. I suppose he might have opted for a strategy that assumed that there would be no caucuses, or that MI and FL counted, or that every state would be winner-take-all, or that the real metric for victory would be some popular vote formula that gets decided after the fact in order to maximize the number votes for Hillary Clinton.

Maybe he could have planned on losing the election and then trying to change the rules afterwords.

But that would have been dumb.

So, the fact that Obama and his campaign people are actually capable of comprehending the primary rules gives me a lot of confidence in the GE. Understanding the rules of elections seems to be an important part of winning them. If he had based his primary strategy on false assumptions I'd be a little worried.

Most of all, I'm excited that we have such a fantastic candidate for the GE, and I can't wait to put this nonsense behind us.

Obama inspires an optimism that's been missing from the political process for a long time. He understands this moment in history, and he understands the role that he must play. And, he has this uncanny ability to understand the rules of elections.

As president, he will bring real change, not only to this troubled nation, but to the entire world. For too long the best we could hope for from the leader of the free world is that he wouldn't screw things up too bad (and we didn't even get that). That's about to change.

The future is bright.

Yes, we can.

1. He's run a hell of a campaign
He's generated a ton of enthusiasm and brought new people into the process and outmaneuvered the Clinton machine. He defied the odds and took down a candidate most perceived to be inevitable. I'm very proud of him and I am proud to have been a part of his grassroots movement. Now I'm planning to work my ass off all summer and fall to help get him elected.

5. Yeah, isn't it smarter to simply understand the rules and figure out how they work
Edited on Sun May-18-08 01:53 PM by dkf
instead of trying to change everything after the fact?

Of course, narcissists don't think rules apply to them anyway, and they make up their own rules for everyone else as they go along. This is the first campaign I've seen where a personality disorder is pervasive.

11. Are rules or rights more important?
I disagree with you strongly that arbitrary rules are more important than civil rights. Obama shouldn't fight so hard to make sure that many party members don't have the right to vote just because they live in certain states.

12. Rules direct the rights... you cannot change the rules mid game, if you didn't like them ahead of
time you should have spoke up, or not agreed to those rules in the first place.

19. no one has the "right" to vote in a private party election
The Democratic Party can choose its candidate any way it wants. What don't you understand about this? Do you want to vote in my Condo Association's annual board meeting?? Sorry, you can't!

15. Great posts like this make me sad that more people aren't
paying closer attention. I'd love to share this with my husband and mother, but it would just take too much explaining and then it wouldn't be funny anymore.

Call it egghead humor, maybe, but I think it's wonderfully funny!

Thanks!

Damned if they do, damned if they don't.
