Obama makes a request of his supporters- "be nice to Clinton supporters"
I know this was already posted, but it was done rather poorly. So for that missed Obama's request, he is asking that his supporters "be nice to Clinton supporters". I know there will be a handful of people that will make this more challenging than it has to be, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't listen to our future President. He knows that a unified party presents the best chance to win in November.

57. magmanious?
Does that involved burying them at the earth's core, or just pushing them into lava or open volcanoes?

I'm up for it.

everybody knows Obama supporters can't even spell magnanimous, much less be it ;)

but I volunteer in hospice care. I've sat with a lot of folks while they figured that out and it's pretty awesome to watch the process.

Having gotten past that one, are you making all your other life choices as effectively?

I am sure as hell not going to criticize you for it or saying you are using it to your advantage... I think the poster is saying because she has cancer, she has no control whatsoever, the cancer has control... At least that is how I read it.... And even if it had nothing to do with what was being posted, I would not criticize you for posting it...

I lost my sister to cancer last month, the funny thing is she often said she had no control over anything and discovered that fact when she found out she had cancer...

132. There's a difference between countering lies and attacking Senator Clinton
When Clinton supporters post something I find to be factually inaccurate or nasty I call them out. I don't post any negative threads about Senator Clinton, though.

There's a few very disturbing threads from Obama supporters saying that we don't need Hillary Clinton and her supporters in the party. I know that doesn't represent most Obama supporters but I don't think that crap does any good being posted.

Stop accusing us of racism, lying and every evil deed you can think of or make up. There's more hate here for Hillary than bush*! You lie about her...NEVER give her the benefit of the doubt and exaggerate your own paranoid expectations and evil projections etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc., etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc., etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc., etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,

How do you possibly think we would want to vote for someone that would make rabid Obama supporters happy? I have never felt such anger for all you people who lie about Hillary 24/7. I hope she becomes VP just to get your nasty goats/panties in a wod...will serve you right. Yes, I'm being hateful...but you made me this way with your constant never ending R W bashing of Hillary. How much do you think anyone can take without getting truly angry...and then having the nerve to try and make us feel guilty and want our vote because you are afraid of a McCain administration and conservative SC? Well, sorry...but you all hate mongers should have thought of the consequences when you bash, and make up lies about Hillary for so long you believe your own lies. It's SICKENING!

I can understand you being angry, I have been angry at times and threated to vote for Ralph Nader instead of Hillary, but eventually we will all have to calm down (no matter which way it goes) and support the dem so McCain doesn't get in the White House. Remember that we are each responsible for our own behavior. Blaming it on others is just a copout.

99. It's really just a fork in the rode
We, all Americans, will have two choices in November. Choice one is McCain. That choice leads to 8 more years of Bush's policies and a Supreme Court filled with far right freedom and rights hating judges. Choice two is Obama and 4 years of a liberal president, who has the ability to inspire the nation. If you don't go down the Obama road, you force the nation to travel down the McCain road.

41. and if the roles were reversed
hillary would need all the Obama supporters. A divided party cannot win. It didn't work for McGovern in 1972, GHW Bush (not that I am complaining) in 1992, and a divided party likely can't win this year.

Yes, we would like your support, but if you really would rather have McCain, then at least you can't have the retort that you didn't support him in the elections.

I think Tom Harkin would have been a better President than Bill Clinton but that doesn't mean I wouldn't have voted for Clinton (had I been old enough) for the good of the country. Clinton and Obama are very similar on the issues. There isn't a fundamental division over policy. We just have two very good candidates with very strong supporters.

This isn't about hurt feelings or upset about a nasty primary race.

This is the future of the country, and whether we have four more years of the Bush attacks on human rights, the constiution, the environment and basic human dignity.

Clinton supporters are not owed anything. Think in terms of JFK's speech: it's about what you owe to your country. So are you going to do the right thing, or are you going to do your part to hand this country over to four more years of destruction - some of it with long-lasting impact? Your choice, but it's *your* choice. You own it, and the responsibility.

and still remain honorable? Being nice, doesn't mean you have to agree with attacks on Obama. Nor does it mean you can't offer up a counter point. He is simply asking that you be nice. Would you consider that an unreasonable request?

And I'm not *ignoring* him. Deciding to do other than as he suggested after deliberation isn't *ignoring*.

However, some people don't deserve it, and won't get it from me.

39. Barack Obama is clueless. Not as dangerous as John McCain, however,
he is a novice and will not get my support. I did not support John Edwards and still view his "endorsement" as too little, too late. Elizabeth Edwards started the nasty attacks early on against Hillary Clinton ... perhaps a lot of you were not paying attention back then. Elizabeth Edwards was particulary aggressive in her attacks against Hillary Clinton. I am very angry with Elizabeth Edwards and her sorry use of her breast cancer recurrence during the primary ... I'm a breast cancer survivor at least until now.

than a figurehead. I think that our efforts as Democrats should be securing a majority in the House and the (well, this is just my opinion of the royalty known as) the Senate. I'm a firm believer in the Legislative Branch. If we have elected the representative voices of the American voters, we don't have to worry about the White House nor the Supreme Court.

Obama said his supporters "HAVE" to be nice to Clinton supporters.

I don't agree with him, but thought the OP cleverly edited the words to avoid the clear point Obama was basically ordering his followers to do.

After all "have" can have different meanings. Seems to me what he is saying, is if we want success we HAVE to be nice. Sort of like if you don't want to starve to death, you HAVE to eat.

What exactly is your motive for trying to interpret that phrase as an order?

As I said he is not giving an order he is saying we need to be nice. To be honest, I find it troubling that some people are trying to misinterpret it to mean he was issuing an order. I can't see how such an interpretation would be helpful to unity.

88. The OP's mischaracterization of what Obama actually said is neither here nor there...
The course of action Obama advocates is perfectly reasonable.

Also perfectly reasonable is the course of action that responds vigourously to continued lies by Clinton supporters.

There can be more than one reasonable course of action. It's not a betrayal of honor, Obama, or anything else to pursue a different, albeit reasonable, course of action.

I don't agree that people have to follow Obama's instructions, they should come to their own decisions about what constitutes civil behaviour. Or, conversely, they can heed his orders, if they choose. I have my own opinions on the subject, which I've expressed.

I was remarking on the intellectual dishonesty of mischaracterizing what was actually said.

Regardless of the actual words - that you deliberately hid - it really is immaterial whether he *meant it* as a request or a command. The issue is whether or not Obama's suggested (for the sake of argument) course of action is the ONLY reasonable one.

It hasn't been shown that it is the ONLY reasonable course of action.
