Georgia GOP chair: McCain "kind of like Jesus"
http://www.ajc.com/autoracing/content/metro/stories/2008/05/17/gagop_0517.html

Columbus — Georgia Republican Party chairwoman Sue Everhart said Saturday that the party's presumed presidential nominee has a lot in common with Jesus Christ.

"John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross," Everhart said as she began the second day of the state GOP convention. "He never denounced God, either."

Everhart was praising McCain for never denouncing the United States while he was being tortured as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

"I'm not trying to compare John McCain to Jesus Christ, I'm looking at the pain that was there," she said.

17. I know right?
"Everhart was praising McCain for never denouncing the United States while he was being tortured as a prisoner of war in Vietnam."

It didn't seem like denouncing God was even on the table...

7. The problem is he did
I'm not holding it against him but he did say negative things about the US after being tortured. They did break him a few times as they would anybody.

10. And Christians all over the U.S. take a moment to reflect and throw up.
As a Christian myself, I've got to say NO...John McCain ISN'T kind of like Jesus on the cross.

20. can't see many parallels
Yes, Jesus was "tortured" by not only the crucifixtion, He was also scourged beforehand. McCain's torture as a POW was for political reasons only and didn't result in his giving humanity eternal life.

24. She wasn't comparing McCain to Jesus, that was just a side effect
of equating the USA to God.
