Conservatives, even some Democratic Conservatives approach the argument
this way, even if they do not say it.

"I am an Ameican Nationalist and am not embarassed to say there
is a difference between functioning Democracies and Dictatorships,
and countirw led by Despots. Therefore I believe Countries should
be treated differently." There is no moral equivalency between a
country like say Australia and a country headed by a despot.
Democracies are superior to Dictatorships.

I am not saying what is right or wrong --I am saying this is important
to understand when making arguments.

There is a strand of Nartionalism which runs strongly through our
country. It is often confused with Patriotism by our side.

Yes, there are conservatives who strongly hold :"America right or worng".
This flows from American Nationalism.

Foreign Policy will loom important and a good debate is needed.

1. sadly, those same people don't seem to mind when a leftist democracy is overthrown

which to me says there is something less than honest about their opinions. A democratically elected leftist leader is a dictator/despot to them. Funny how that works, huh?
