Poll question: How about Gary Hart for Vice President?
This is just a poll to get your impression -- not to pick Gary Hart over other possible V.P. candidates but to see if he is an _acceptable_ V.P. candidate to you.

Gary Hart has long experience on foreign policy and defense matters, and he has long demonstrated his ability to take on the Republicans. This guy is not shy, and he will take the fight to the GOP and would easily win any debate against any V.P. candidate the GOP decides on.

Mr. Hart would also bring a normally Republican state, Colorado, into possible capture by the Democrats. Democrats especially need to fight for the Mountain West this year, as this area is increasingly becoming new fertile political ground for the Democratic Party.

So, how about the possibility of an Obama-Hart ticket?

5. His affair is too Bill Clinton-esque. Fair or not,
that weakens the ticket strongly.

2. No. It's a shame, but no.
I think Hart and the first thing that comes to mind, unfortunately, is "Monkey business."

8. He's McCain's age. No thanks.
I like Gary Hart. I'd like to see him with a Cabinet position in the Obama administration.

9. Nothing says "change" like a candidate who quit a presidential race 20 years ago due to sex scandal

14. They seemed to care about the false plagerism charg against Biden
this past year. I still think Biden would have made the best President, but I'm obviously in the minority!

11. Monkey Business is a joke by now. He'd be acceptable, but only barely. There's
literally dozens and dozens of better picks.

13. I think he's acceptable
maybe even a strong pick.

If not, I think he's certainly at the top of the list to become Secretary of Homeland Security.

15. So the media could focus only on one thing? Not a good idea.
In case you haven't noticed, the media doesn't really support us in election years. Why give them a freebie? Besides, why would Hart be more qualified than, say, Joe Biden?

16. maybe not as a VP
His scandal and age could be an issue. Time could, of course, alleviate the scandal, but still, it would definitely come up. On merit though, with his ideas and experience, he would be great, but he brings some baggage.

A cabinet level position would be perfect. Secretary of State. NSA. Or Homeland Security. He's well-respected and the Senate would confirm him in a second.

18. I certainly believe he would be up to the job. I'm not so sure he would be up to the election.

He's a realist and a pragmatist. That's what I would like to see in a President or Vice President.

But I think he has little bit to much of a "has been" image for the fall campaign.

19. While I like Gary Hart...
...his political career was dead the instant he posed for a photo with Donna Rice in his lap.

He won't be running for anything.

21. Gary Hart should have been President in 1984
He might be too old to be VP now, but I'd take him over Hillary, Chuck Hagel, Sam Nunn, or many of the other ridiculous names being floated around this board in recent days.

Hart might well be a good pick for a Homeland Security type of position though.

22. Voted 'Yes.'
Here's how come: he knows the international map extremely well at a time when we could use that kind of adept in an influential position.

He has a divinity degree, which I think would be extraordinariy helpful when a reporter, or FOX News, or some random fundie nutbag tries to challenge him on the tenets of Christianity. Hart would make quick work of any fool who tries to take him on.

He would likely reinforce Obama's appeal to independent voters.

He speaks on his feet very, very well. I don't see any Republican veep nom possibility who could out-debate Gary Hart.

He's old-school maverick -- an authentic one, I mean, and not the McCain brand.
