The SDs should just do it- before June 3.
Would it be a mistake? I don't think so. There are only three contests left after tomorrow, two small states and PR, which though it has a fair number of delegates, has no vote in the general. It's clear he has enough SDs on tap. Why wait? On Wednesday morning, Obama will have no more than 55 delegates to go. He'll be endorsed by the Pelosi Club, making that number shrink to 45. And he's sure to pick up at least 35 pds in the remaining contests. The SDs should just do it and let Hillary know that it's time to move on to the general.

7. They'll probably finish it up before the 31st
That way, FL and MI will get seated, but they will have been sanctioned for their "me first" actions, and we won't get a repeat in 2012 of even more states playing these games.

19. FL and MI will change nothing.
I don't see the point in waiting. The ruling won't change the outcome. And, the outcome won't change the ruling.

3. they should do it before June 3rd, I agree. Before the credentials committee
Get him over the hump, that will allow MI and FL to be decided relatively happily because the ultimte decision will not impact the race and if Obama loses Puerto Rico it'll be a footnote on page 16 and hardly cause a concern.

12. care to explain why this would be bad?
I do not see why they should wait until after the primaries when he has already statistically locked it up by then in pledged delegates. The longer it drags on the more little news stories about this will be elevated even though it will not change the ulimate conclusion.

9. I think the SD's should declare before the final elections to avoid
the impression that the SD's were the ones that decided the nominee. Let the people push Obama over the top, not the SD's!

11. That would work. Let 25 or so SDs endorse before
the end of the month and then PR can put him over the top.

10. I think we're going to see an added tide of SDs after tomorrow.
Once Obama's clinched the elected delegate majority, he's assured of the endorsements of people like Pelosi and others who've pledged to back the majority winner, as well as probably seeing a bunch of defectors from the Clinton campaign.

13. we 'move on' when a candidate has been nominated.
Every other suggestion is just another diversion from the actual democratic process we have in place. Why don't you folks who want to 'move on' just do it, recognizing that no one is going to be stifled from political expression, including dissent, outside of DU. Nor should they be.

17. Then the hillary crowd will really decry......
stolen election and victimization. The more pledged delegates for obama, the better.

I'm like you, the sooner it's over the better, but I've come to the conclusion, hillary feeds into their feminist, victim, misogynist meme, better to let them think that all options were explored at this point, then to barrage them with facts. After june 3rd, no mercy.

20. It wouldn't matter.
At that point they could claim some unfairness in the process, sue the DNC because of their ruling on FL/MI, maintain that Delegates could switch anytime until they cast a ballot at the Convention.

The sooner this ends the better. They can all play the victim, we shouldn't be scared of their feelings.

21. We have to be careful
If it looks like we pushed her out before all the voting even if it is Montana and South Dakota some of her supporters would be very very upset.

22. They are already upset, and will never be placated.
We need to not be scared of their feeling. They all have a bad case of Hillaritis. She lost, they need to deal. All the other supporters of the other candidates didn't cause such a need to tiptoe around.

24. Hillary pushed HERSELF out by racking up 12 wins and 25 losses
Edited on Mon May-19-08 10:03 PM by rocknation
between the two Super Tuesdays (Feb. 5-Mar. 4). Unless she wins KY and OR tomorrow with no less than 86% of the vote, Obama will clinch and we will have to stop enabling her for everyone's own good.

Besides, assuming that Obama's clinching brings in those "Pelosi club" superdelegates, he'll only need around 55 delegates to get to 2025: it just won't look good if he can't average six per day over a week and a half.

23. I say that should keep moving toward Obama and seal it on June 4
I do think we need to remember that many loyal Democrats are still for whatever reasons holding out for Hillary and I would not want to antagonize or alienate them.
