It's about perception in this point, and helping to bring unity, yes he will have an unsurpasable pledged delegate lead tomorrow, but that will also exist after June 3rd (and very possibly regardless of what occurs on May 31st) At the same time obama will avoid the "let all the voters count"meme to keep things going, because that would already have been done. It's just that they've waited so long that they're(meaning super delegates) willing to wait just two more weeks to avoid a perhaps long-lasting sense of resentment among HRC supporters (whether it's justified or not, it should be recognized and respectfully addressed if the goal is success in november).
The risk of course is that things may get more heated, but honestly I think hillary will not try to make things much more divisive. I don't think she'll see it in her self-interest to do so, lest she run the risk of more superdelegates pledging to obama(like the 9+ in one day after her "hardworking" comments). Also with almost two weeks before another primary is a LONG time for the bleeding to continue if she makes a obama/self-inflicted wound like that. To give a sports analogy, this is basically waiting out the clock on a football field before it's over, it shows respect to your opponent among other things (and of course there is still the possibility that the OB some how drops the snap and the opposing team runs it in for a touchdown, ala miracle-in-the-meadowlands, if a "popular vote" argument is bought by the superdelegates). That's also why I don't believe obama will flat out declare that it's over, just that he has an insurmountable lead among pledged delegates, and leave it at that. So have patience fellow obama supporters, the finish line is in site, but we have to wait for everyone to finish before the medal ceremony begins.
