This is so disgusting. I'm just floored by this. How can this be legal? Or if not illegal, at least in violation of some
Democratic Party rules. Can someone explain to me why HIllary's getting a pass on bribing Supers?

Superdelegates Turned Down $1 Million Offer From Clinton Donor :puke:
May 19, 2008 02:50 PM

One of Sen. Hillary Clinton's top financial supporters offered $1 million to the Young Democrats of America during a phone conversation in which he also pressed for the organization's two uncommitted superdelegates to endorse the New York Democrat, a high-ranking official with YDA told The Huffington Post.

Haim Saban, the billionaire entertainment magnate and longtime Clinton supporter, denied the allegation. But four independent sources said that just before the North Carolina and Indiana primaries, Saban called YDA President David Hardt and offered what was perceived as a lucrative proposal: $1 million would be made available for the group if Hardt and the organization's other uncommitted superdelegate backed Clinton.

1. It's probably not illegal
Edited on Mon May-19-08 05:56 PM by Jersey Devil
It's not the same thing as paying someone to vote at the polls, which is clearly illegal, or paying a legislator to vote a certain way. A vote at a convention is no different than a vote in a corporate stockholders' meeting. In fact, that is closer to what it is than an election, since the DNC is a corporation essentially choosing its CEO by direct vote of the shareholders (delegates). Immoral? Certainly! But probably not illegal.

2. Not surprising, yet despicable, and representative of Clinton's campaign as a whole

10. You are aware, aren't you,
that Obama has given far more money to superdelegates?

5. There's a $2300 limit to the amount this person can donate to Hillary directly.
Think of this as a variation on the 527 routine.

7. LOL! Shame indeed!
That's why she doesn't mind using the Supers to win -- because they
perhaps CAN be bought, unlike caucus and primary VOTERS.

8. At the cost per Super Delegate
She'd still need more money than she's raised so far

11. We may never know. This is so emblematic of the "old politics" v. "new politics" of Obama
In a weird kind of way, it's perfect that Clintons are having to stoop to this kind of crap, because it
stands as a classic example of why Obama MUST be the Dem Nominee if we are going to reclaim the party
and the country from politics as usual.
