Doomed to sink but I don't care.....
I just had to share and celebrate. I'm so excited! I just found out that a person I'd been working on regularly about voting finally did!!! I've known her for about 5 years (she's my dog's groomer). We often talk politics while she's grooming my dog and I know that she hates Bush and thinks much the same as I do. But she steadfastly refused to register to vote or care about voting -- she's around 30 and has never voted. Her arguments were first the jury duty one. I debunked that and, in fact, she got called for jury duty proving my point. Then her argument was it doesn't matter and her vote doesn't mean anything. Man, did we have discussions over that one!!!

I just found out that she registered to vote for the primary.....she registered as a Democrat.....and she voted for Obama. It's a tiny victory but man, for me, it's HUGE! Took 5 years of cajoling. I even teased her on the card that went along with her wedding gift, writing "You know, it's the law that when someone marries they must register to vote." She laughed.

Yipppppeeeee! There's one more NC vote for Obama in the GE. And one less American sitting on the sidelines. :D

7. I think we could get a lot of fundies with Obama on the ticket...
I know some folks around here despise them and don't want to associate with them in any way... but hey, I say the more the merrier!:D A vote's a vote, right?

8. thank you

It's ridiculous that so many are "left behind" when it comes to voting because of myths and superstitions, or some sort of pathetic act of rebellion. This suits the corporate sector JUST fine.

I guess the Bu$h nightmare has illustrated better than anything that we can't afford not to pay attention. We need every single voter we can get on our side.

11. Well done! The Democratic campaign in the fall is focusing on personal interactions
such as neighbor-to-neighbor interactions or other
personal contacts.

You're off to a great start!

13. I actually used that argument....
Tried to (teasingly) pull on the strongest of her heartstrings by reminding her that more and more dogs will end up homeless thanks to Republican economic policies & people losing their homes and/or not being able to afford to keep their pets.

Both of my dogs eat expensive top-of-the-line food (one of them has to eat very expensive prescription food) -- told her if things keep going the way they are, I won't be able to freaking afford that food! (I've actually started stocking up on both of the dogs' foods with an eye toward $200/barrel oil and the price of their food getting truly insane and unaffordable.) I used every argument I could think of! I wasn't above going for the guilt aspect. }( She has a HUGE dog and the cost of caring for him also hit home a little. Fortunately, she and I like each other immensely and are able to josh while I still get my points across.

She's a mobile vet and that likely also helped -- she can't keep raising her prices without losing clients but she's getting killed with the gas prices.
