Democrats: enjoy this day
Edited on Tue May-20-08 08:12 AM by H2O Man
Today is "primary day" in Kentucky and Oregon. It is going to be an important day for the democratic party, and will be a great time for supporters of both Senator Hillary Clinton and Senator Barack Obama. We will see voters endorsing the two strong democratic candidates.

The media will be focused almost entirely on the energy of our party. In order to try to take away from the powerful force that will change the make-up of the executive and legislative branches of the federal government, the republicans and their lap dogs will attempt to manipulate today's events. This will include attempts to divide democrats. But their attempts will fail, because the American public is aware that the republican party is a corrupt force that has damaged the fabric of our society.

2008 is a historic year. When people at a future date look back on the 2008 elections, they will recognize that the democratic primary played an important role in helping to institute real change in America. And today, we are able to not only witness, but to participate in that process.

I look forward to watching the news, and taking part in the discussions on DU today.

1. I dont think the primaries will accomplish that much. I'd bet it's a draw
Obama gets 15 more delegates in Oregon, Hillary 15 in Kentucky. I do think that Obama can move over the 50% threshold and lay a good claim to the nomination, but Hillary will not acknowledge it

3. A draw .....
I think so, too. And I think that's a good thing. It makes a powerful statement about the party, in stark contrast to the republicans.

2. This is one more step closer to the end.

As such, it's a great day! I am looking forward to the time when we can fully discuss the contrast between the Democratic vision for America's future and the Republican plans to continue Bush's destructive policies without distractions.

7. KnR - Thanks for keeping us focused on the bigjer picture.
I so can't wait until all of us are kicking McCain's ass down the block and starting to concentrate on winning more Congressional seats. We're going to need them!

9. One of the greatest
gifts to the democratic party is George W. Bush's compulsive need to try to associate himself with John McCain. The combination of Bush's shadow and McCain's personality will result in the republican party's losing the election. I also think Bob Barr will hurt McCain.

11. With this I can agree strongly
The OP is dead on correct. Written by a guy who I often think goes over the top, but is also a shrewd observer. Hey, I also go over the top. Over the top is not such a bad thing, this being politics.
This is a great day for the Democratic Party, and much of what I have worked for this year is being delivered today. I know many wanted it over quickly, not me. This is how we win November in my opinion.
I've been skipping media and most of the internet too for a few weeks and watching campaigns up close, right in my neighborhood. The reality is much better than the media spin. I needed to hear the candidates live to make up my mind. On the ground, neither is as the media portrays them. Frankly, they are both better than they are shown to be. The Democrats in my town are strong right now. This makes me happy. Strong and winning Party has been my overall goal and I am stoked as we used to say on the beach.
This is a good Primary.

I'm in Oregon and this is voting day, or last to deliver our mail in ballots day. So I'm not saying anything except Oregon is making me proud, our Party has been making me proud here, and the last two weeks have been very exciting. Huge turn out I hear. Great down ticket candidates. I thank all of the Presidential candidates, from the first large set to the final two, for the work they have done. Also all of the Democratic voters who have worked with and for them. And also thanks to the DU community, every last one of you, no matter what. Well, no matter what as long as you vote Democratic at every opprotunity.

12. On occasion,
I put effort into going over that "top." But always with a specific goal in mind.

My normal brother lives in Oregon, and I've enjoyed the photos etc that he has been sending me. The state is doing the democratic party proud.

15. The West Coast

Much more enlightened over there. A good place to live for a Greenie. Whenever you say "normal brother", I always think of a locked attic and the other brother.

16. Ah yes Oregon is a fine state
And I recognize that you work with intention. This cycle I have learned a few things about politics vs my own line of work, and some of that I have learned from your postings, love 'em and hate 'em both. So thanks.
This cycle I've heard Obama, Hillary, Chelsea, Rep Abercrombie for Obama, Joe Wilson, Bill Clinton and run into Michelle Obama while returning a dvd, all of this within 6 blocks of home. It has been real bliss. And this is not Iowa or New Hampshire. It has been great to see it like this. Great to see the too young to vote set see all of this. I love it. Every primary should be like this.

14. My brother told me
that when Obama spoke on her campus in Oregon, that people started getting there many hours before he was scheduled to appear. His wife and daughter got front row seats. They sent me some great photos of the event.
