Some Great News for All Democrats
As reported by the Oregon Democratic Party, over 47% of Democrats, that's 408,683 Democrats, have voted in the Oregon Democratic Primary as of yesterday. Over 100,000 more Democrats have already voted in the Oregon Democratic Primary than did in the 2004 Primary. Granted, during the 2004 Primary, it was pretty much over by this point, but here is the really good news:

In January of 2008, there were 764,255 registered Democrats. As of April, there were 869,538. That's an increase of over 100,000 new Democrats. Compared to the Republicans, who had 687,898 in January and have actually declined by 10,000 voters to 676,895 as of April.

Oregon has a mail-in-ballot voting system. Registered voters have until 8 PM today for their ballots to be received at the county elections office. Since it's too late to mail today, voters may drop off their ballots at their local county election office.

The Republicans are in deep trouble. This is going to be a very good year for Democrats.

1. Also, they vote with paper ballots!
--that's something all states should be doing,
IMHO.

This is great news, Berni.

Thanks for posting this. :)

2. Yes, the paper ballot point should not be overlooked. Oregon has a great system!

3. I see the masses still want hostile postings vs. positive constructive postings
This post is dropping like a rock in the midst of racism/sexism threads.

Sad.

4. Post it in GD.
You might have better luck there.

I liked the post though. :)

6. Well, it is pertinent to the Primary (primary driven voter registration numbers)
So I will leave it here. I think it truly belongs here.

8. Post it in both.
There's a lot of election posts in GD too, and the ones negative to repubs are always welcome. :)

5. I personally think this is great! Hope they can tabulate them throughout the day!
Otherwise that's a lot of ballots to be counted overnight!

10. The ballots have been coming in for over two weeks
They usually count them as they come in so all they really have to do today is count the last minute ballots - deadline is 8PM PDT. We should have pretty complete results relatively early tonight.

14. Well, it might be late for those of you in other time zones
But on the other hand, once the 8:00 deadline passes, the numbers should come out fairly quick. It will be a late night for Obama most likely, if he's in Iowa

9. and for the coattails

The Democrats are energized to vote and I am hoping that will pay big dividends farther down the ticket. For example, here in Eugene, we have a hotly contested mayoral race between a Bushbot, who was mayor from 1996-2004 and the current progressive mayor and a couple of minor candidates. If the progressive can win 50% of the primary vote, there will not be a runoff in November and the Bushbot, who has renounced his Republican party affiliation and has endorsed Barack Obama in a desperate bid to shake off his past can just go away.

18. Nothing like a few years of Republican rule to send the nation spinning to the left.

Sic years, to be precise. If they'd managed to stay in power a few more years, the Communist Party would probably win the next election.

19. And dragging out the Primaries has created huge interest and attention to Dems
that the Media wouldn't have given us if either Clinton or Obama had been declared the front-runner in February. More time for RW Swift Boating and the Hatchet Media to ignore anything but the RW Talking Points.

As much as folks here have drawn battle lines...I'm one of those that thinks it's great to have so much interest in ISSUES Dems differ from Repugs on...and to see us Dems fighting for the votes.

Americans are obsessed with sports and teams....and this is like an extended World Series or Playoffs. The Media has to cover it...even if they do it badly it gives us Dems publicity we wouldn't have had otherwise. I remember how little coverage Kerry got compared to Bush. And, when he got coverage it was all so negative. This is hard...but in the end we will be glad to see that it all played out so long.

thanks for your positive post.
