Clinton horns in on Obama's planned trip to Florida
Posted on Tuesday, May 20, 2008

Seeking to trip up Barack Obama's march to the Democratic nomination, Hillary Clinton plans to overlap with his much-ballyhooed trip to Florida that begins Wednesday.

Florida voters will see back-to-back visits from Republican John McCain and Obama that signaled the general election campaign was under way — until word leaked out Monday that Clinton, too, is coming to the state this week.

Clinton is expected to continue pushing for her contested victories in Florida and Michigan to count, though she still would not earn enough delegates to overtake Obama. And McCain and Obama's increasingly heated battle over foreign policy in Latin America and the Middle East could make it challenging for Clinton to get a word in.

Details of her visit to Palm Beach County on Wednesday were not available Monday night.

''It's pretty clear the reason all three are going to be here is because the nominee of both parties is going to have to fight hard to win Florida in November,'' said state Sen. Ted Deutch of Boca Raton, a Clinton supporter. ``We have every reason to believe Florida is in play.''

McCain is up first, with a speech Tuesday at the Sheraton Miami Mart that will be his first speech on Cuba and Latin America policy since he became his party's presumptive nominee. Obama will arrive Wednesday for a three-day swing through Central and South Florida — including stops at the Cuban-American National Foundation in Miami and B'nai Torah Congregation in Boca Raton. No details of Clinton's itinerary were available.

She has reminded me of a woman I knew.. The boyfriend married someone else, and this woman continued to drive by his house, in hopes of catching him outside..so she could convince him to leave his wife & baby..& come back to her.. she KNEW he still really loved HER..

29. She has to, it's easier to hit him up for money...
"Hey Obama, can you spare me money to make it to the next town? I am a little short. Thanks man I'll pay you back, you know I'm good for it!"

Everybody has that one broke friend, that comes out to eat with the group, know he ain't go no damn money, order the most expensive thing, eat it all, don't share, then when the bill comes they remember they lost their wallet, in tropical storm ernesto!

Well THAT'S Hillary.
She is going to be sending people to John and Barack's bus asking for spare fruit for lunch.

3. I'm interested to see...
...what the turn out will be for each stop. If Obama pulls the large crowds - larger and more vocal than Clinton's, will that give Hillary and her supporters pause?

Does McCain even do outdoor events? All his personal appearances that I've seen on TV all have tight shots which makes me think he never has that many there. Wonder if they screen like they did for Bush?

4. oh geez, so now she can't go anywhere obama is? I wonder what obama's supporters are afraid of?
if they (and he) are so certain the nomination is tied up, and she is basically irrelevant, what the hell is the problem with where she goes?

17. She is desperate, and humiliating us all. She hopes some of Obama's....
coverage will spill over onto her, or that her being in the state will start rumors of them appearing together (a rumor I heard yesterday) as a possible VP position for Hillary on the Obama ticket.

Actually, come to think of it, she probably is afraid that once "her" Florida voters (to whom she feels entitled) see and hear Obama, that they will switch to Obama.

Whatever. It doesn't make her more relevant. It makes her more pathetic.

27. It reminds me of the day Ahnuld filed his papers to turn in the CA special election for Gov.
Huffington, in her zeal to beat him to the mic's when he was leaving the building ran into them and knocked the whole podium over.

Clinton = Huffington.

6. 3rd wheel - exactly. I just wish I knew what she was trying to prove.
If this made more sense to me, I think I'd be more stoic about it. But there's no way in my mind she can win, so what's the point?

25. Before the primary.
The rule was they were not allowed to campaign there before the primary. As soon as the polls closed it was no longer off-limits. That's why Clinton went there on election night to give a speech after the polls closed.

26. For the Primary, not the GE. As you know perfectly well.
Please don't insult the intelligence of everyone here by pretending you don't understand the difference. You may continue to refuse to recognize it, but the rest of the country is transitioning into GE mode now that the nominations are a lock on both sides.
