Another Note to Zealots. More Advice.
Edited on Fri May-23-08 07:27 AM by mrbluto
If not a zealot, please disregard.

Look, the Economist (yes, conservative, but not about to lie about this sort of thing) said this yesterday:

"With only three primaries left, Mr Obama is ahead, with 16.7m votes to her 16.2m"

Let's, by some zealot magic, shave a half million off of Hillary's vote count and hand it to Obama for no other reason than to punish her for...for... for getting in Obama's way! Or for daring to contend an election. Either way is fine.

Now that makes it a 52/48 percent popular vote split in Obama's favor.

Surely you can understand that there's absolutely no hazard to vilifying someone supported by a mere 48% of the party?

Yep. No hazard at all.

Hell, with such little support we should kick her, and all her freeper supporters, out of the party for good! With a ceremony! Eggs and rotten tomatoes on hand! We should call her names, and, by association, 48% of people in the party who bother to vote, the most vile, infuriating, condescending things we can think of. Yes - not only let them know they're not needed - it is important to let them know our contempt! Shout it with me: "Hillary is despicable, her supporters are sheep, and we despise them!"

What could the harm possibly be?

Here's a bonus question: What would Obama have us zealots do?

  1. Keep tripping on hate.
  2. Attack repeatedly.
  3. Attack the last Dem. President too.
  4. Snark on his opponent's daughter too.
  5. Paint all her supporters as idiots and/or evil
  6. Take swipes at Edwards(no longer an option, currently)
  7. All of the above

6. Where do I say that?
Besides - why should I give advice to Clinton supports?

Those worthless gimps!

I'm surprised they can feed and clothe themselves, never mind pull the lever for Hillary!

In fact I think there's something fishy about that.

They're a 48% of the voting democratic electorate we'd be better off without.

There's no test to take - you've already failed!

Maybe, just maybe we'll accept your vote in November. We won't need it, but I don't think we could stop you if you instisted.

You, your experience, any effort you might lend toward winning the general election?

Simply not needed.

Run along now.

27. Yes, you 48% are nothing to sneeze at.
I hope you see the importance of a unified party going into the fall. We want everyone's vote. A convention fight in my opinion is too risky though. I would think the same if everything was reversed and I was part of 48%.

Look at you. You're all: "Ooooo, look at me - I think the opinion of 48% of people who voted in the Democratic primary should influence what happens!"

Get some spine!

We need to dump these Hillary Supporting, Democratic party losers!

Once we get rid of all that deadwood then us remaining people will have real unity!

Not all this deliberation and difference of opinion, or any of this time-wasting debate malarky. When has anybody disagreed with you and not turned out to be evil? or stupid, or both?

Edited on Fri May-23-08 07:44 AM by Spider Jerusalem
to begin with, there is no evidence whatever that Obama has any such opinion, and I don't really think that the opinions of a relatively small subset of anonymous people on an internet discussion forum can be said to be representative of the views of the larger body of people who support Obama, either. DU is not the real world, nor are the opinons expressed here by a mere handful of people reflective of broader opinion. If you are incapable of realising this, then I feel sorry for you.

Perhaps their vote may help - but their opinions are certainly not needed.

I think we should put them all on notice that their continued acceptance in the party is probationary.

It's not worth the taint unless they smarten up and show the proper enthusiasm.

They must understand how flawed their thinking was, or they'll just create more problems.

19. Strange that you left out the rest of that paragraph.
With only three primaries left, Mr Obama is ahead, with 16.7m votes to her 16.2m, a slender edge of 450,000. But that is not the end of the story. It is only fair to take some account of what happened in Florida and Michigan, which were stripped of their delegates for voting too early, but which are electorally vital and whose views ought to carry some weight. In Florida Mrs Clinton won 295,000 more votes than Mr Obama; in Michigan she won 328,000 while he won none because his name was not on the ballot. Add these in, and Mrs Clinton is magically 174,000 ahead.

And Unlike you, I'll provide a link to the story:
http://www.economist.com/world/na/displaystory.cfm?story_id=11412555&CFID=6649018&CFTOKEN=51116822

In other words, your tally includes a state that does not count because it broke the rules of the Democratic party. And yet you call those of us who feel the strength of the party in more important than a single candidate "zealots".

It's deceptive threads like this that make it hard to keep my promise not to insult other DUers.
