Hilary comparing herself to Governor Moonbeam?
Edited on Fri May-23-08 04:41 PM by SlipperySlope
Let me get this straight. Hillary is using the fact that Jerry Brown kept his campaign alive through June of 1992 as justification for keeping her campaign going as well?

Well, uhm, ok, I guess I can see that:

In 1992 the Democratic primary was effectively over and the winner, Bill Clinton, emerged in April.
In 2008 the Democratic primary was effectively over and the winner, Barack Obama, emerged in April.

In 1992 one dark-horse contender, Jerry Brown, kept running even though he was seen as increasingly kooky.
In 2008 one dark-horse contender, Hillary Clinton, kept running even though she is seen as increasingly kooky.

But there are also important differences:

By late April 1992, Bill Clinton was focusing his campaign on his opposition: George Bush and Ross Perot.
In late April 2008, whenever Barack Obama tries to focus his campaign on his opposition, Hillary Clinton pipes up with wise-ass "victory lap" comments.

In 1992 the self-destruction that that Jerry Brown inflicted on himself effectively ended whatever political career he could have had in national Democratic politics. The remainder of his career saw him leave the party, get elected to be mayor of the eighth-largest city in California, and eventually rejoin the party and reach the office of California state Attorney General.

If Hillary's political aspirations from this point forward are that she someday become mayor of Rogers, Arkansas, and eventually rise to the post of Arkansas Attorney General, then she is welcome to continue comparing her campaign to Jerry Brown's.
