*** REC This Thread If You Think Hillary Must Get Out NOW!!! ***

She's gone too far this time - now she says she's staying in the contest JUST IN CASE OBAMA is assassinated

Hillary Clinton is behind Obama in number of states won, number of delegates, number of super delegates. While she stays in the race that she cannot win, the RNC is busy outraising the DNC by 10-1, McCain is getting a free pass in the media, and we are 5 months from the GE. Hillary tried to compare the Florida and Michigan primary messups as being = to the 2000 election and Zimbabwe's election.

SEND AN EMAIL TO THESE FOLKS:

Tell DNC Chairman Gov. Howard Dean what you think here (form)

On MSNBC, Chuck Todd just said “that she realizes that she screwed up and this might be the last straw
and it’s over for her- that she went too far with these remarks.”

Please write to him ASAP and tell him you feel that way too.

HILLARY RAISES ASSASSINATION ISSUE
DEFENDS LONG-RUNNING CAMPAIGN

By GEOFF EARLE New York Post May 23, 2008

Hillary Clinton today brought up the assassination of Sen. Robert Kennedy while defending her decision to stay in the race against Barack Obama.

"My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it," she said, dismissing calls to drop out.

Watch a video of the editorial board meeting here.

Obama's camp immediately fired back.

"Sen. Clinton's statement before the Argus Leader editorial board was unfortunate and has no place in this campaign," Obama campaign spokesman said in a statement.

Clinton made her comments at a meeting with the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader's editorial board while campaigning in South Dakota, where she complained that, "People have been trying to push me out of this ever since Iowa."

....Robert Kennedy, the younger brother of President John F. Kennedy, was gunned down in 1968 after winning the California primary. He had been a hero on the left for his civil rights agenda and calls to end the war in Vietnam.

Barack Obama, who leads Clinton by nearly 200 delegates and has already secured a majority of pledged delegates, has been the subject of threats. Early in the campaign, the Secret Service gave him a security detail at the request of Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Illinois).

... more at the link

THIS IS HILLARY'S IDEA OF AN APOLOGY, NOTICE SHE DOES NOT APOLOGIZE TO OBAMA, HIS FAMILY OR HIS SUPPORTERS:

"I regret that if my referencing that moment of trauma for our entire nation
and in particular the Kennedy family was in any way offensive. I certainly had no intention of that whatsoever,"
the former first lady said.

44. **Call the following uncommitted Senator-Superdelegates**
Edited on Fri May-23-08 07:01 PM by WillYourVoteBCounted
HERE'S WHAT AMERICA BLOG IS SAYING TO DO

Call the following uncommitted Senator-Superdelegates and ask them if the reason they haven't endorsed a candidate yet is because of what Hillary just said; that Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June and it's only May. That is exactly what she just said.

Main Capitol Switchboard: 202-224-3121,
Call the Capitol Hill Switchboard toll free at 888-355-3588
then ask for the particular Senator's office:

Tom Carper (DE)
Tom Harkin (IA)
Mary Landrieu (LA)
Ben Cardin (MD)
Carl Levin (MI)
Max Baucus (MT)
Jon Tester (MT)
Harry Reid (NV)
Frank Lautenberg (NJ)
Sherrod Brown (OH)

115. Some "apology"! Nothing was said to Obama whatsoever.
Edited on Fri May-23-08 10:59 PM by Zambero
I almost hate to say this, but I suspect that in advancing the possibility of assassination as the rationale for her stayiing in the race, Ms. Clinton was actually coming clean with her last final hope for getting the nomination, that some violent act might end the candidacy of her rival. This dark revelation is far worse than swift boating. Worse than Karl Rove's tactics. As a former admirer of hers, I now hope that she decides to leave public life period, forever.

to be racking up tens of millions of dollars in debt for her campaign just in case something happens to Obama.

:sarcasm:

Seriously, when have we ever had a back up candidate "just in case" something happens to the nominee?

Dear Dr. Dean,

It's time to persuade the remaining super delegates to endorse Senator Obama. The Clintons have lost what's left of their credibility, as you must, at this point, know only too well.

Thank you for everything you do in service to the DNC and our battered country under the worst regime ever.

Gratefully yours,

............

Actually, its sad to see this happen to the Clintons, we were so happy when

135. Few are calling her out on her lie
Robert Kennedy was assassinated after only 13 Primaries! That race bares absolutely no resemblance to the current race for the nomination!

The probability of Obama getting assassinated for being an African-American is high. It would be wrong to hide that fact.... Some will just never accept an African-American President and Clinton is playing that race card as best as she can!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_1968#Primaries

At the moment of RFK's death, the delegate totals were:

Hubert Humphrey 561
Robert F. Kennedy 393
Eugene McCarthy 258

Primaries

Only 13 states held a primary at this time (California, Oregon, Nebraska, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Florida).

read it. She said she was staying in the contest just in case Obama was assassinated.
He's the only other candidate in the Democratic Primary.

She's not talking about McCain's assassination.

If you want to make excuses for her and call this a "gaffe", then
consider that if she is this insensitive and off key, she has no
business representing our country.

She has hurt alot of people today, including me.

If she had the Kennedys on her mind today, that's understandable. However, who did she have on her mind the other time(s) she brought up the assassination of Bobby Kennedy?

That comment was a subliminal message.

56. I will be civil here.
She owes Obama an apology because even if it was in an error, Obama was the object of her statement, and it sounded like she was saying that if Obama was assinated she would be there to take his place. Do you really not see that!!!! By the way, her apology was not an apology to anyone, it is what I was taught in counseling to say to my patients. I am sorry if I upset you, which translates to I am sorry that you are upset. Also, it was just pointed out that what she said was inaccurate, her husband already had the nomination before June. It was just a technicality that he was waiting for the California vote. Don't take my word for it, the editor of Newsweek just said so on MSNBC. She also stated things like this before, so she can not even defend it by being tired.

Also, if you had ever been to an Obama event, you would know how serious this happening is being taken. Security is too the max. Not like it use to be sadly. There are people out there that do not want an African American as president. All they need is a little encouragment, and hasn't Hillary set herself up as the "white man's candidate". She has made the bed that she now lies in, and it time for her to exit the campaign and do so as graciously as possible. Apology is needed for her to do so.

Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid - Where the fuck are you?

We love you guys, but seriously - where are you?

What more proof do you need that Hillary Clinton isn't slowly wrapping up her campaign gracefully? What more proof do you need as to the damage that Hillary Clinton is causing our party by staying in the race? What more proof do you need as to the venom that is motivating her insistence on staying in the race? Do you honestly still think that she's not capable of dragging this out until the convention? Today proved that she is capable of anything.

It's far past the time for quiet little conversations urging Hillary to play nice. She lost the right to ask for "the benefit of the doubt" ten racist eruptions ago. Dean, Pelosi and Reid should tell Hillary that she has till Monday to gracefully exit the race, or Monday afternoon they are publicly endorsing Obama and calling on her to concede. And then, if she doesn't concede, Dean, Pelosi and Reid should publicly call on all the superdelegates to immediately pick a candidate, or else.

This is truly the last straw.

I turned against HRC after her calculating IWR vote. Then I watched her lie, pander and resort to the kitchen sink in this campaign.

But today takes the cake. JFK and RFK were the heroes (along with MLK) of my youth and RFK's short campaign was the first one I ever worked on. For that witch to channel assassination wishes possibly to her bigoted constituency in Appalachia is just the most despicable thing and shows she's not ready for shit.

She needs to go away. And she needs to be voted out of the Senate as well.

66. She ought to get, and Obama supporters ought to cut it out.
With her comment (whether it had dark intentions or not) Hillary has likely driven the final nail into her own campaign.

There is no need for Oabama supporters (of whom I am one) to continue villifying and heaping abuse upon Hillary and her supporters. Whaterver you may think, she and her husband are and have been pillars of the Democratic Party who have fought for the Democratic agenda their entire political lives.

But this post isn't about praising Hillary Clinton. It's about scolding Obama supporters who have been as vile and nasty or moreso than they accuse others of being.

Do you understand the first thing about the candidate you support?

Barack Obama is special because he is a healer and a unifier who understands that our country wlll continue having a very difficult time pulling itself together if we don't learn to pull together and see past our differences to the overriding common interests we all share.

Obama does not spew the hateful attacks seen daily on this board. Why do you?

86. assassination is NOT reminiscent of the dean scream, friend
Edited on Fri May-23-08 08:52 PM by beezlebum
i hardly think bringing up kennedy's assassination is even REMOTELY akin to "the dean scream."

"bitter-gate" is akin to the dean scream.
"Pastor-gate" is akin to the dean scream.
"flag-pin-gate" is akin to the dean scream.

i'll even go as far as to say- though i consider it valor theft and am very reluctant to do so, but for the sake of fairness to hillary's *respectable* supporters- NOT to hillary or her minions- that "sniper-gate" is almost remotely akin to the dean scream.

ASSASSINATION, however- NOT akin to the dean scream.

this is beyond the pale.

120. I am equating only the MSM reaction, not the subject matter involved.
I have learned since my last post that this isn't the first time Hillary said something like this. Well, why the outrage now? Even as I wonder why Clinton would mention assassination several times, I cannot help but notice the parallel. Taken in it's original context, the general reaction was a bit surprising to me. In the context of several references, it is worrisome.

I am always highly suspicious of emotional flaming outrage fanned by the MSM, regardless of nature or source. You should be too. It is a proven and effective way to manipulate people. Just because you share the outrage doesn't make it less effective or make you any less manipulated.

I prefer to reserve judgment until I have more facts and a cooler head. Perhaps she deserves it, nevertheless, I am concerned about whose agenda is best served by pushing Clinton out of the race as soon as possible. (And I don't mean Obama.)

i do not watch corporate media. at all. the only time i even catch KO is right here on DU youtube posts.

many mispeakings and misgivings and mistiredings have been forgiven- THIS is where she has crossed the line. THIS is not the same as the dean scream, because the dean scream was baseless, paltry, and nonsensical infotainment devoid of substance- THIS on the other hand is solidly offensive and alarming. period.

i have not asked for clinton to leave the race. as previously stated, while i have agreed that she could leave the race and i'd be thrilled, i have not ardently called for it, and even from time to time have supported her "right" to do so, even though i felt she was obstructing a crucial race to the white house.

76. I really don't think she was referencing an Obama Assassination...but...
...she's clearly unglued, burnt out, and just needs to go.

The situations are so different than the ones that she mentioned. She has no chance, as opposed to Clinton in 92 or RFK in 68.

Because she has no chance, and because she mentioned the assassination, rather than simply campaigning in California....it leads to all these thoughts that she is still running because of a possible Obama assassination.

It's macabre to bring up the assassination at all. It tells you where her mindset is. It's just crazy.

I don't care anymore about 'her feelings' or 'Bill's feelings'. Never really did. She needs to get out now and fast.

78. TPIP: Hillary's New Game Plan
From The Personal IS Political today:

"...there aren't any states remaining, not even Florida and Michigan, that can save her, it is mathematically impossible for her to win, which was NOT the case when Bill won California in June. So her only reason to stay in this race is on the off-chance that Obama gets gunned down, and she is apparently hanging on waiting to see if that will happen. Talk about a nasty plan A.

So her only reason to stay in this race is on the off-chance that Obama gets gunned down, and she is apparently hanging on waiting to see if that will happen. Talk about a nasty plan A.

I guess that makes sabotaging Obama for November so she can run for president in 2012 (or perhaps just to spite him and punish the Democrats) plan B, in case he doesn't get assassinated."

now it's TIME FOR HER TO GET THE FUCK OUT- not just of the race but of the fucking democratic party. she is not a democrat. not even a conservative one. she has one-upped- nay- ten-thousand-upped joe lieberman. she has crossed a line, and this is unforgivable.

It is simply dishonest to lead on these hard working people with false hope for a lost cause when there is no point of principle except to build up her own bargaining position.

If she was like the late Sen Eugene McCarthy in 1968 and was pressing an extremely important point of principle by serving as the national electoral wing of the anti-war movement - I could understand.

As it stands now, she is simply maneuvering with a subtle threat of wrecking the Democratic Party's chances in the November election - not like to the late Sen. McCarthy in 1968 - but for purely personal ambition.

I get it. This thread is like a poll where you can only vote one way. How quintessentially Obama-ish...

I've noticed the Obammers like to set things up so the Hillary votes aren't counted and Hillary voices go unheard. Pretty strange behavior for people on the verge of victory, isn't it?

I cite weird threads like this one, the Obamites' craven overuse of the "ignore" function, and DU's policy of locking evenb the most mildly anti-Obama threads within seconds, while the vilest anti-Hillary threads get the "Greatest" treatment.

It's weird the Bammerwammers would do this, given their superior numbers here at DU.

Come to think of it, what could possibly be the point of a thread like this, other than to tell the world you hate Hillary?

We get it, guys. We know you hate Hillary. No need to repeat ourselves hundreds of times, starting thread after thread where we tell everyone--once again--how much we hate Hillary, etc., etc.

Ah, the politics of hope!

Maybe the Obamites are just not cut out for the game. The whole political thing seems to drive them nuts.

this Obama feud thing happened. Her public

As if African Americans are not working people too.

My remark comparing her to Hubert Humphrey refers
to the RFK Humphrey contest where RFK was the popular
favorite while Humphrey was the favorite of party
insiders.

Clinton “Hopes” For Obama Assassination?
Black Star News Editorial
May 23rd, 2008

Senator Clinton has finally snapped under the pressure of her losing campaign and pressure from her demonic husband Bill and his race-baiting campaign strategy against Senator Obama
Somehow we at The Black Star News are not surprised to read today that Senator Hillary Clinton told a newspaper’s editorial board, in a not very subtle way, that she remains in the presidential race where she has no chance of winning on the hope that Senator Barack Obama could be assassinated.

We suspected this all along, even when she still had some chance, and we said so in our Editorial “Clinton Race Baiting Could Endanger Obama,” which was published on www.blackstarnews.com on March 16, 2008. Senator Clinton today when asked why she remains in the race told the editorial board of the Sioux Falls Argus Leader: "My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. You know I just, I don't understand it…."

Reacting to Clinton's comments today, New York City Councilmember Charles Barron had this to say: “Hillary Clinton must have lost her mind. For her to even make the implication about an Obama assassination. That is insane for her to say that. There are enough crazy people out there who would want to so something like that…and for her to encourage it? Someone should make a citizen’s arrest of her for conspiracy.”

We wholeheartedly agree with Barron's sentiment and we suggest Senator Clinton should be held responsible by all decent Americans if any harm comes to Senator Obama. We believe that if this woman has a shred of dignity and self respect –if not for her, for the sake of her daughter Chelsea—she should apologize to the American people, withdraw from the race and join a monastery.

Below is our original editorial in March.

Clinton Race Baiting Could Endanger Obama

Consider this an open thread, with the proviso advice to those that continue giving more exposure to Senator Clinton’s terrible gaffe yesterday even with the righteous indignation that any of us that are still human naturally feel toward it: I just ask that you read this story before speaking aloud or add more fuel to the kind of fire that has extinguished hope too many times before

CounterPunch Diary

Death-Wish Hillary Primes Manchurian Candidate
By ALEXANDER COCKBURN

Ever since she realized back in early March that Obama was going to take the nomination Hillary Clinton’s long-term strategy has been to do her best to ensure McCain will win this November so she can become the Democratic nominee in 2012. But she had a short term strategy too and on Friday she deliberately made it explicit in a newspaper office in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. There she suggested that some is likely to step up to the plate and assassinate Barack Obama in the waning moments of the California primary, just as Bobby Kennedy was forty years go almost to the day. The wish is mother to the deed. If anything does happen to Obama in California Mrs Clinton should surely be indicted as a co-conspirator.

How to else construe her grotesque remarks in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in the editorial offices of the Argus Leader newspaper. Here she told the editors, "My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it," she said, dismissing calls to drop out.

...Mrs Clinton and her mouthpieces have been steadily raising the volume on their verbal-lynching. In South Dakota Mrs Clinton lit the fuse.
