Third Time's A Charm: Parsing Hillary's Multiple RFK References
I've been trying to collect all of them. So far as I can count, it's three. If anyone has another reference, please post it here.

March 6 - CLINTON: No, I really can't. I think people have short memories. Primary contests used to last a lot longer. We all remember the great tragedy of Bobby Kennedy being assassinated in June in L.A. My husband didn't wrap up the nomination in 1992 until June. Having a primary contest go through June is nothing particularly unusual.

Discussing TIME.. no need to reference an assassination.

April 25 - You know, I remember very well what happened in the California primary in 1968 as Sen. Kennedy won that primary.

She is NOT talking about dates here. She says she remembered "what HAPPENED AS" Kennedy won the primary. That would be his assassination.

May 23 - "My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it," she said, dismissing calls to drop out.

Even if she is talking about "dates" there is no need to mention the "what happened", which she so clearly was talking about in the second example.

1. So why the outrage now?
Does it take three strikes to make it appear on all the media? I don't understand.

2. I think she was given a pass before. But after 3 times she doesn't
deserve another pass.

11. Great Ian Fleming quote: "The first time is happenstance. The second time....
is coincidence. The third time is enemy action."

That quote and the one by Sun Tzu, "When you become like your enemy, your enemy has won," are the two that I have used throughout my business career.

For Hillary to use the assassination justifiation three times....I agree with Ian Fleming: It's enemy action.

3. I remember when I heard her say it before and couldn't believe my ears
I thought for sure there would have been a backlash but I guess she didn't say it poorly enough then.

4. Yeah awful curious that it seems to take about 3 times. Remember snipergate?
And the excuse then too was "Oh that wasn't intentional, it slipped my mind. I'm only human. Why are you victimising little old me? :eyes:

Crawl back under your rock you venomous calculating lying threatening monster.

5. She tried to pass it off today that the Kennedy family was on her
mind b/c of Ted's brain tumor. Balderdash. The media are pulling out the previous references. This is worst IMHO than snipergate.

9. This is much more serious
It touches a much deeper nerve, the reaction is more emotional, more visceral. It is compounded by the fact that it all seemed so needless, the bitter irony that the candidate who got damaged by Hillary fighting so hard at the close of this race when it was obvious to so many that she could no longer win was herself. It adds a tragic dramatic touch that won't easily fade.

It will be made even worse if she tries to pretend that this wasn't the final game changer for her, if she continues to press her case for the nomination hard. Then she will start being written off as truly out of touch rather than someone playing hard for some final advantage.

8. The problem is that her camp always says she needs to stay in the race 'in case something happens'.

10. But clearly what they meant was that a greenhorn like Obama might say something stupid.
You know, a gaffe, or maybe some insensitive comment that could be miscontrued by a bloodthirsty media. Can't you see how risky such a candidate might be? I mean, um, Obama of course.

12. This proves that her statement today is not a mistake
she has been saying it since March and as I mentioned in my thread
thats why I'm not buying the tiredness BS.

These are Muppet in place playing their role of dampening the damage.

14. And NOW we know her reference to Bill was a LIE. She had to know, for god's sakes,
what happened in Bill's freaking campaign.. (Primary Colors much?).. and there were OTHER instances of long campaigns. There was no legitimate reason to reference RFK. I now think the worst.. she did it on purpose, a dog whistle, just like the rest of the crap she and BILL and Mark Penn and surrogates have implied, things totally low and vile and disgusting and fearmongering. They tore the scab off of Election 2000.. they tore the scab off of racism, MLK.. and now RFK.. they brought class division back.. oh, fuck it. I hate them.

15. To me it sounds like "just be patient, they didn't take Bobby out til June."
Oh yes, she's been running on the vulture ticket since Super Tuesday, not that anybody was ready to admit it.
