Taking a big, big step back.... this really can't be happening, can it?
Here we are seven plus years into the worst presidency in American History. Corruption and crimes everywhere - the upcoming election poised to make the 2006 whoopin' of the GOP look like a brush with a feather. The GOP slate looks like a set of the walking dead - no imagination, no charisma, little to no intelligence - a totally empty hand no matter who was the one to run - and we get McCain, the second coming of the worst president in our history.

and what do we do? A blood sport, nasty, increasingly disturbing ensues which could possibly grab defeat from the jaws of victory. Two wonderful candidates (even giving what happened today) - actually the entire slate of Dem candidates could wipe the floor with any of the GOPers.

What the hell am I missing - how can this possibly be happening? Have we gone insane as a society - have we passed the tipping point of common sense? Will it ever again be about the people being served, or is it now just all about power and greed? I guess I am way too much of a bleeding heart, way too much of an idealist - and, sure, call me naieve....I can take it, but this is making me sick.

Wake me when its over....I really don't think I can take any more!!!!

1. Your fellow Obama supporters don't want real unity. To them the basis for re-unification is
that all Hillary backers realize the error of our ways and apologize for not seeing her for who she truly is. No need for respect and talking about two great candidates and all they have in common. Nope--they want blood.

Well, I make no apologies and neither should Hillary. And Obama has a hell of a lot of work to do before he gets my vote.

2. Why don't you unhide your profile?
Or do you keep it hidden so that we can't see how recently you joined. You've been on a hate fest tonight in you defense of the indefensible. Be good HillFan, and shut your mouth and sit this one out. If you support your candidate - fine, but you don't need to support every last word that comes out of her mouth to the bitter end... regardless of how absolutely disgusting and moronic it sounds. She's jumped the shark - are you happy following her?

Lung cancer took my ex-husband at age 70 in 2006. It was a terrible death. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. I hope that Ted Kennedy can get good treatment and stay with us until the new President and VP are sworn in.

Otherwise, I totally agree with you, Steve, and commend you for trying to stand up to this -- insanity -- along with just a few other people.

Irrelevant enough to take your anointed candidate to the woodshed.

In ten years they will be talking about the joke of a campaign that the first so-called female candidate put on. How she duped women all around the country.

In twenty years, half of her supporters will have died of old age and the youth that Obama galvanized will BE the party.

If you still believe she is so grand.... You are the one drinking the Kool aid.

But thanks for your suggestion.

I might just move on to a cable TV movie. We watched "Lars and the Real Girl" a couple of nights ago. It was a very thoughtful and interesting movie about relationships. I recommend it highly.

Have any suggestions for movies we might watch tonight?

Also, I guess I'm going to force myself to watch "Recount" on HBO on Sunday night. Just for the performances, because I know how the story turns out. But I just adore Kevin Spacey, Tom Wilkinson and Laura Dern. Spacey was on with Charlie Rose last night.

46. No actually, he doesn't.
First, you are not that important, nor am I for that matter.

November will come soon enough, and whether he has done the "work" you desire or not, you will still be faced with a choice. No one other than you will truly know how you choose as the ballot is secret and anonmyous.

Barack Obama supporters are not responsible for your decision, only you will bear responsibility. The same goes for me.

Hillary owes no one an apology, neither does Barack. Politics is the ultimate competition, one person wins and the other loses. It is the nature of the profession. No one owes you an apology for defeating your favored candidate and if you are looking for one, be prepared to wait a long time because it is not forthcoming.

No one from the Kerry camp apologized to me for beating Howard Dean in 2004, at least not until after the general election. I worked for Kerry/Edwards anyway. I don't regret it either. Grow a little spine and get on with life.

9. We've been denied justice for the horrific wrongs of the Bush Administration.
Therefore, we seem to be doing one of the things that human beings do best--taking that frustrated rage out on each other, because we can't take it out on the people who actually Deserve it.

Ever known someone who was extremely upset because of some awful injustice that happened at work, etc., and then came home and took it out on family members? That's it, writ large and deep across the Democratic Party.

We're all too busy Reacting to Think...and when we *do* Think, it's only to come up with some flimsy justification for our previous Reaction. (i.e., "I might have been a bit 'emotional', I was TOTALLY RIGHT to scream like a melodramatic banshee because Hillary Obama Blah Blah Blah...."

Basically, we're screwn.

As a brief examination of the contents of General Discussion: Primaries quickly shows.

You're right, she should have conceded a long time ago, but that's no reason to weaken the Democratic Party by participating in a sectarian conflict between the supporters of two candidates who, on the issues, are nearly indistinguishable.

15. NRaleighLiberal, I kicked and recommended your OP.

I've been fighting with these so-called Democratic supporters all night last night and now I'm at it again. My official opinion is located at: http://journals.democraticunderground.com/Radio_Lady/238. I have not wavered in my admiration for both of these candidates since April 2008.

This has got to be the most disgusting day I've ever spent this site. Tonight is absolutely the bottom of the pit.

Many Hillary supporters have simply given up. Some PMed me and said they had had it. I thought about getting out of this forum, but CHOSE to fight on tooth and nail for this party right through to the "bitter" end (when Obama will probably be selected) and God knows who will be the VP selection. I will vote for the Democratic ticket. My husband is going to reserve his opinion on this because he thinks the Dems will LOSE BECAUSE of this clan war.

But how we get there is becoming more and more a problem for me.

Kick the other person when he/she's made a comment or a gaffe?

Suggest that one primary candidate is recommending assassination of another primary candidate?

I simply cannot believe my eyes and ears.

But this case is not hopeless. Not yet. Yes, I will stand and fight.

I heard the quote that Obama made about "bitter" people. Big deal. I heard the quote the Hilary made today about her husband's campaign in JUNE and RFK's campaign in JUNE. She was only discussing two campaigns that happened to "spill over into the month of June." In case you think I am too young to remember the assassinations, I was pregnant with my daughter so I know how horrific the situation after that assassination was.

Over the past 24 hours, the insinuations that Hillary was seeking the VP slot SO SHE COULD BE IN A POSITION TO POSSIBLY ASSASSINATE OBAMA has been made and alerted on. Much of this was humanely deleted by the moderators.

But tonight? THIS IS BEYOND ALL REASON. WE ARE DOOMED IF WE CONTINUE ON THIS PATH OF DUAL ANNIHILATION.

Cordially,

Radio Lady

30. The victory will not be forthcoming if obama is the nominee..You
all are so upset about a statement made by HRC and in your way of thinking the first thing that pops into your minds that she is calling for the killing of obama. L-rd, help! There is nothing in her statement that comes close to that. I accept her statement of regret and I also accept Robert Kennedy's statement in support of HRC.

I have the feeling you obama folks are so afraid that she could win this nomination that you all are going ape shit over a statement that was made months earlier and again the same old folks thought then she was calling for obama to be killed.

COMMON SENSE. As I said I will take Robert Kenndy Jr.'s words: "I’ve heard her make that argument before,” Mr. Kennedy said, speaking on his cell phone as he drove to the family compound in Hyannis for the holiday weekend. “It sounds like she was invoking a familiar historical circumstance in support of her argument for continuing her campaign.” . . . is support of Mrs. Clinton has not wavered.
More from RFK, Jr.:

I have heard her make this reference before, also citing her husband's 1992 race, both of which were hard fought through June. I understand how highly charged the atmosphere is, but I think it is a mistake for people to take offense."

Well - if RFK's namesake is not upset with Hillary and understands what she was trying to say- maybe some of you should CHILL!
>>>>>>>COMMON SENSE is what many of you obama folks lack.....

Shalom

57. First bud, CHILL OUT. This is POLITICS. Just chill. The primary is almost done. After that,
we ALL rally around Obama, heal the party, and get to work beating McBUSH's ass. So just chill out. No, the primary contest won't go the convention. Yes, MI and FL will be seated in some fair way. Yes, Obama will pick a good VP. Yes, Hillary will support Obama. Yes, Obama will work to earn the votes of EVERY American in EVERY state, especially I's and white working class Hillary supporters. So don't take everything you read on this blog or everything some of the pundits say or even very many of the polls to heart right now. Just cool down, relax, and get ready to unite the party and take the fight to McBUSH very damn soon.

59. They'll smear him as unpatriotic and blame the economy on the Democrats
What's so hard to understand? If we hadn't blocked the ANWAR drilling, we wouldn't be paying such horrible blood money for gas. (Just stop your idiotic arguments about there hardly being any oil there or any other silly reality, you're just wasting your breath.)

Times are hard, and they're going to get harder this year. Bush and his economic grown-ups got us out of the Clinton recession and everything was going great 'til the Dems took the Congress in '06. It was all rosy and on the right track 'til the liberals messed it all up. The worse it gets, the worse it can be painted.

Auchi, Wright, Farrakhan, Michelle, Ayers, Odinga and who knows who else are in lock step with him, don't you know?

People who don't see the vulnerabilities are either blissful in their revery or simply ignorant; these are the STANDARD tactics they use. How can this possibly be surprising? This is what they ALWAYS do.

61. If your idea of a wonderful candidate is a proven liar and race-baiter like clinton...
...we don't live in the same reality.
