I do not believe Hillary was being intentionally malicious...
Sometimes we all make mistakes. And this was a dandy. But I do not think she intended it the way it was interpreted. But I am not looking to see how Hillary handles this grand faux pas - I am looking to see how Obama handles it? Does he let her simmer in her own remorsefulness and sorrow? Or does he forgive her? In my eyes, it will tell me as much about Obama as some have interpreted it to mean about Hillary. If Obama is the person that I think he is, I think he will speak up for Hillary in an understanding and forgiving way, because I do not believe that, in his heart, he thinks she was simply being malicious and angry. Sometimes forgiveness is in order.

3. He just ignored her for the most part, I believe.
Remember, he thinks this kind of shit is stupid anyway. The whole "GOTCHA" style of politics is not something he likes to delve into.

16. Indeed they have
saw Axelrod on with Chris Matthews saying he didn't believe it was a cynical move on the part of the Clinton campaign. Of course many Clinton supporters won't acknowledge that graciousness, too often the supporters are conflated with the candidate/the campaign.

19. Like the sewage in the streets in Bagdad she wants the benefit of the doubt for.
I think Sen. Clinton is losing because people don't trust her.

I think people who don't trust her are smart not to trust her.

6. I think what happened, is she let her private conversations and ideas
slip into the public's view. That's the risk one takes when you are a complete phony. Sooner or later you slip up.

Edited on Fri May-23-08 09:53 PM by PeterPancake
She will exit the race next week, possibly sooner, in shame. Obama can freely pick someone else as his VP and the media won't spend weeks asking why.

I'll take it.

9. What you see is the difference between Hillary and Obama. He didn't jump to attack her
on these comments like she did on Wright and his small town comments. She couldn't wait to jump on his small town comment. Axelrod pretty much defended her.

10. Will Hillary offer an appropriate apology? "Sometimes forgiveness is in order."
She attacked Obama on Ayers, questioned his patriotism

Obama is not Hillary.

"I can still win because the important hard working white people will vote for me - not like those unimportant lazy brown people."

It's tough to forgive pathetic stupidity.

14. I don't think his camp will say much more.
I think Hillary might want to clarify her apology and admit that "assassinate" was a poor word choice, Bill actually had it wrapped up in early May of 92, and she is sorry to invoke that language.

Then move on.

15. I don't either. I think she is one very lost person. Lost and confused.
She should NEVER have hired those Repuke advisers. She thought she could out play them, but they never actually engaged her as a person, so what she thought she was working with WASN'T what she was working with.

Edited on Fri May-23-08 10:13 PM by Tatiana
His official statement called her comments "unfortunate."

His campaign staff has been put on notice not to engage in any speculative or negative discussion about the topic.

I'm done with Clinton. But I don't have to deal with her. He does. As such, he'll forgive her in order to work with her as necessary.

But she'll get nowhere near the ticket. That dream is finished.

25. Yes, it was a horrible comment.
But my heart does not tell me that Hillary is a horrible person. I must separate the two conflicts. Not because of what happens today but what might happen tomorrow. It's a karma-inducing statement. Sometimes we must stand stiff and brace ourselves against the winds of anger and ill-chosen words, lest we be blown into a dark world of blame and self-hatred. Please do not ask me to explain further.

30. Not malicious, but reckless...
In her exhausted state, she revealed some thinking that told a lot about how she views her situation.

Perception = 90% of reality. Her fragile campaign is now dead in the water.

She should exit while she has any political capital left.

32. It seems clear that IN HER HEAD has been the idea that she could be the nominee if something bad
happened to Obama, up to and including someone hurting him (others might be plane crash, car accident, major scandal, etc.). But, is that worth holding out so long and hurting the party.
Either way, she needs to do more explaining and LOTS more apologizing.

Right there with that girl who wore a shirt that looked like it had a bomb attached to it, to the airport. Both should have known they were playing with fire.
