Obama said at a fundraiser in Miami Beach last night that conservative talk show hosts were in part to blame for hte rise in hate crimes.

"A certain segment has basically been feeding a kind of xenophobia," Obama said. "There's a reason why hate crimes against Hispanic people doubled last year. If you have people like Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh ginning things up, it's not surprising that would happen."

Limbaugh, of course, didn't hate the publicity.

“I actually don’t believe this – Barack Obama, in my own state, raising money for his presidential campaign called be xenophobic at a fundraiser – yeah – 'a certain segment basically been feeding a kind of xenophobia' – 'there’s a reason hate crimes against Hispanic people doubled last year,'" Limbaugh said at the top of his show today. "'If you have people like Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh ginning things up, it’s not surprising.' I thought this guy was the unity candidate? Calling me a Xenophobe? Responsible for hate crimes? My feelings are hurt here.”

Obama could have said more and still made an understatement.
