Goodwin: Hillary Clinton's colossal blunder simply the last straw & NY Daily News Cover
Edited on Sat May-24-08 03:49 AM by RamboLiberal
SICK. Disgusting. And yet revealing. Hillary Clinton is staying in the race in the event some nut kills Barack Obama.

It could happen, but what definitely has happened is that Clinton has killed her own chances of being vice president. She doesn't deserve to be elected dog catcher anywhere now.

Her shocking comment to a South Dakota newspaper might qualify as the dumbest thing ever said in American politics.

Her lame explanation that she brought up the 1968 assassination of Robert Kennedy because his brother Ted's illness was on her mind doesn't cut it. Not even close.

We have seen an X-ray of a very dark soul. One consumed by raw ambition to where the possible assassination of an opponent is something to ponder in a strategic way. Otherwise, why is murder on her mind?

http://www.nydailynews.com/opinions/2008/05/24/2008-05-24_hillary_clintons_colossal_blunder_simply-2.html

Hillary Clinton's last gasp campaign suffered a gaping, self-inflicted wound Friday when she recalled Robert Kennedy's 1968 assassination while defending her determination to keep running against Barack Obama.

-----

Political reaction was swift and unanimously negative. Even Hillary loyalists expressed shock, dismay and private outrage.

It was a rare moment in political circles when Democrats and Republicans alike literally had the same visceral first response:

"Oh. My. God."

"She said what?" an incredulous Rev. Al Sharpton told the Daily News, adding that the remark reinforced his belief that Clinton should fold her candidacy.

1. Don't know much about Mr. Goodwin, but I have to agree with his
assessment. It seems that the political world, except for her ardent loyalists here, seem to think this was the death knell for candidacy, and possibly her political career. There is no way Obama should be forced to have this woman attached to his candidacy. Can you imagine the ads the GOP will run against an Obama/Clinton ticket now?

Nah, this was said with tongue-in-cheek.

5. Considering that she has made the same case on other, prior occasions
I would assume that she had had time to do an inward assessment on the appropriateness of such a comparison. She has either lost her mind or she is really just exemplary of the worst type of American politician, the type that usually has an (R) by their name.

We may never know, but it's possible that Obama didn't spend more time in KY and WV - in the rural parts of the states, anyway - because of threats we may never know about. Who knows? He certainly met with hostility in both states, with the exception of the urgan areas.

I'd rather it be because he just decided it wasn't worth the time and money, though those were the only 2 states he didn't contest.

BTW, that would be "urban areas," not "urgan." Doh!

Hillary obviously needs intervention and intense psychiatric counseling.

Maybe after years of therapy she can regain some semblance of basic humanity.

Maybe....

Why don't we speak about who Murdoch has been attacking? Is it Obama? no. It's Hillary Clinton.

Guess who started the RFK controversy? Rupert Murdoch's New York Post.

Guess who the New York Post endorsed? Barack Obama.

Go read a thread that's going around in GDP about critical thinking. It may help you not cherry-pick the least important things in an argument.

13. Yeah Oh. My. God. is right.
I'm amazed at how strong the defense is here by clinton people for something that is indefensible.

How about you try a different argument. Try saying it was wrong, poor taste, and something said without thinking it through, something she didn't mean - say it was wrong, but that its not a big deal, rather than trying to say that people who had an "Oh. my. god" experience on hearing it are somehow stupid.

18. Desperado
"Desperado"

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?

You been out ridin' fences for so long now

Oh, you're a hard one
I know that you got your reasons

These things that are pleasin' you
Can hurt you somehow

Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet

Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can't get

Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no younger
Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home
And freedom, oh freedom well, that's just some people talkin'
Your prison is walking through this world all alone

26. I couldn't care less what Michael Goodwin has to say about anything.
I saw him and Ed Rollins as the guests on Lou Dobbs right before one of the Democratic debates. Goodwin was every bit as smarmy, every bit as critical of Democrats as any right wing pundit on television. It was so bad - Rollins and Goodwin shitting on Democrats during the entire segment - that it caused even Dobbs to remark about the lack of balance during that segment (what Dobbs's guest bookers were thinking is beyond me).

30. So do we like Michael Goodwin now? Are you sure?
Here are some of his other recent bits of wisdom:

Middle name Hussein is only one reason terror thugs like Barack Obama

Barack Obama's support of Rev. Jeremiah Wright was wrong choice

Snob-ama slight a big-time error

Barack Obama, our new appeaser

Sounds like a right wing asshole to me, someone who should not be dragged into DU.

33. The Amsterdam News Editorial on May 22nd - Take Good Care
Before Hillary's interview, the editor of an African-American newspaper in Harlem, NY had this to say:

Take Good Care

by WILBERT A. TATUM
Publisher Emeritus and Chairman of the Board
Originally posted 5/22/2008

The closer the possibility of Senator Barack Obama’s becoming the nominee of the Democratic Party for the Presidency of the United States, the more frightened many of us become.
Time was when we spoke among ourselves and imagined a real run for the Presidency of the United States by a person of color who had a prayer of competing effectively and possibly winning, we had a throwback to reality: Martin, Kennedy, Medgar and Viola, all assassinated following the process of making America the kind of place it ought to be. Many Blacks and whites express this fear openly now.

Each time the television brings us the story of a political death, no matter where in the world, we are reminded that that possibility exists here and now.
We remind all those who care about the future of America that they must be vigilant; they must watch carefully, lest the past repeat itself. This is not to suggest that there should be fear, but we must remember that it can happen here. Remember the Federal Building in Oklahoma City and the World Trade Center Towers in New York.

We urge all those who care to keep a keen eye out and say a prayer for all those participating in this year’s election. The fact that there is a Black man and a white woman running for the nomination for the Presidency of the United States is, to the bigots of our land, like pouring gasoline on a forest fire near Malibu.
For the sake of God, be careful, pray and watch out for everything and everybody.
