Attention ALL DEMOCRATS!!! Philly's "OBAMA [insert suffix]'s" forgive the Clinton's.
In my eyes, it was bound to happen. The runner up in the most contested contest for the trust of the aware American citizenry, would find it hard to give up. It was just a mater of time that the runner up would earn the number one spot, or step in number 2. Hillary just stepped in it.

I know where I am here. This is not Hill44 or MyDD (cause your BB sucks), this is Democratic Underground. But I remember when this site, not just praised, but supported Hillary Clinton. If it wasn't for the emergence of Senator Barack Obama, there would never have been such a site as Hillary44, because it would be called Democratic Underground.

I must proclaim, to DU's Hillary supporters, that in the summer of 2005, as I sat at DNC HQ in DC, watching the Conyers "Basement Hearings" on the "Downing Street Minutes" revelation, I visualized a 2 year campaign in which Senator Clinton would leverage her apology for her IWR vote with a substantial legislative opposition to the obvious attack from within to our Constitution. As a witness to the birth of the opposition, ConyersBlog.com, and AfterDowningStreet.org, I later understood why John Conyers did not pursue Impeachment. He had no backup.

MOST HERE HAVE NO GROUND TO CRITICIZE HILLARY FOR TRYING!!!

I talked to my friends, and we all came to the same conclusion. Hillary has overextended herself. She tried to make a shaky timing point (there is no California in June), and made thee mistake that a President can not make, an ill-advised statement under duress.

No Cheneyish VP, no Bill in the White House, no impediments to a fresh start. But I believe that the future before us would be served well with Hillary Clinton in a strong legislative position. Trust me, I want to call her wacko, but she is not. She's just caught up.

She deserves it more than Bill. She deserves a leadership position in our party. Let her be a crazy Senator, if that calms your sensibilities.

I'm willing to bet money that 98% of the 1000+ posters here had anything bad to say about Bill aside from thinking "rather have someone getting some with his finger on the button", or it could be worse.
Of the remaining 2%, we knew that Bill Clinton was better than a choice between the average lesser of two evils.

In the week-ish before us, we can vent our frustrations about how Hillary took it to far, crossed some line, or exposed some weakness in the American fabric. I will personally take advantage of this small window, but out of RESPECT for what the Clinton family has contributed, give her a brake!

It's time to heal.

3. I understand, but it is not in our best interest to destroy her over this.
Her gaffe sickened me, but we are smart enough to know that, if this event quickens the end of the primary season, then a purpose was served by her laps in judgment.

If, and I say if, this was due to the tiring effect of this long, drawn out process, she should be made to realize that Obama is prone to the same effect. As the presumed presumptive nominee, he needs to rest and have time to formulate, fine tune his GE strategy. Her gaffe is a prime example of the eroding effect of drawing out this process.

My point is, 2+ years ago, before the emergence of Barack Obama, the candidate, we all respected Hillary for same attribute that got her into this predicament in the first place. She is an uncompromising, doggedly determined scrapper.

In the interest of the party, let this event do the damage necessary to the moment, to free Obama to run his campaign free of the baggage of the past. She deserves and has earned a place in our party. And in my opinion, she deserves it more than her husband.

5. I'm on board with everything you just stated.
The clintons are a part of the party, the corporate wing, but dems none the less. Its those bigoted supporters of hers that I prefer to distance myself from and hope the party does the same.

4. The past two months have been pretty tramautic thing to watch due to Hill's tactics.
I will be the first to admit that Bill did some good as prez, I voted for him.

It will take some time to heal, and it won't occur until Hill drops out of the race and isn't heard from for a couple of weeks. She's done alot of damage. Some of her supporters will never vote for Obama, so I hope he doesn't over reach in his reaching out to them.

I've had my say on her latest gaffe. I'm ready to move on, just waiting on Hilliary to move on.

7. Thanks. Pride runs deep on both sides, I feel it is ...
the responsibility of those who can see past the political gamesmanship, to start the task of mending the fences where we can.

Glad to see that some are up to the task.

Just posted more on Skinner's OP on this subject. Check it out.

6. You remember when?
Your memories are rosy, at best. Hillary never enjoyed support, let alone praise, from the majority here. Most of us were wary to outright hostile. So no, this place wouldn't have been the natural home for the HillaryIs44 yokels, except by administrative fiat, and only if she'd dispatched her competitors as quickly as Kerry did.

8. OK, support was shaky, but she war respected.
She was never treated with the disdain that arose since the primaries.

9. "I remember when this site praised and supported Hillary Clinton" -- lol, no you don't.
I've read DU for a looooong long time, and DU as a predominantly very liberal board, has never had love for the DLC side of the Democratic Party.

That was what has been so funny about this primary season - watching hillary support take root in DU.
