This is the end of the innocence
Watching the feeding frenzy over Hillary Clinton's completely innocuous RFK comment, I am now officially afraid.

CDS, the derangement syndrome that fuels psychotic hatred of all things Clinton, has verifiably (re)infected our entire media apparatus and much of the Democratic Party.

If it's not Day of the Dead, it's certainly Time of the Truthy.

Remember the helpless dread you felt when the GOP willfully drove us off the rails of reality?

The aide said that guys like me were "in what we call the reality-based community," which he defined as people who "believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality." I nodded and murmured something about enlightenment principles and empiricism. He cut me off. "That's not the way the world really works anymore," he continued. "We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality -- judiciously, as you will -- we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors... and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do."

I guess they really are the party of ideas. Though the Republican brand is in the toilet, their contempt for reality is most infectious.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

When the very underpinnings of reality are yanked out from under us, we're in Rod Serling territory. Kafka territory. McCarthy territory.

A candidate mentions that her husband's first presidential campaign was still contested into June, and so was Robert Kennedy's historic and fateful run. A statement that is harmless, relevant, and true. Three words that apparently hold no appeal for many folks these days.

The ensuing response would make you think she'd gotten hold of Sirhan Sirhan's gun and was now pointing it at her Democratic rival. Whhhhaaaattt the fuuuuccckkk!?

If you've bought into this four-alarm twistunderstanding, I don't know you anymore.

And I don't know the reality you've created. I only know that you're terrifying me.

1. Interesting that you'd adapt the "Bush Derangement Syndrome" meme
and then compare Obama supporters to Republicans.

8. I don't imagine you invented it, but you're still employing it, and
the same sneering dismissal that "BDS" implies.

10. I don't spend much time in the circles where they say "BDS"
But around places like DU and DKos, CDS is on full display.

2. Any pundit or any Obama supporter pushing this is completely LYING about what was said
It's a flat out GRADE A lie. She never said "anything can happen", she was simply providing examples of summer primary campaigns while denoting a historical fact in the process. The narrative brewing from the Obama media is that she said "anything can happen". SHE DID NOT. You can't rewrite what she said just to beat her up in your column, or TV segment.

3. Are you saying that the "anything can happen" meme is a fairy tale?
What are you, a racist? Why do you hate MLK and RFK?

6. Newsflash: The End of Innocence was the day GWB stole the Presidency thanks to the SC.
Where were the Clintons?

Oh, they were busy moving to NY State so HRC could start her quest for the Executive Branch.

9. Remember how enthusiastic Al Gore was...
... about staying close to the Clintons in his 2000 campaign?

Oh, yeah, he wasn't. But why let reality slow down your CDS?

12. Why did she use 1968 as an example
When it was historically inappropriate, as the primary season didn't begin that year until mid-March? What was the point? Why 1968? 1992 makes some sense, because Jerry Brown fought Bill until the end.

Note: If anyone is terrified by my comments, I apologize.

13. "This is the Dean Scream all over again"
... a quote from astute blog commenter, Susie from Philly

http://www.correntewire.com/this_is_the_end_of_the_innocence#comment-91008

The media frenzy around Howard Dean sounding gravelly in a microphone was 100% bullshit.

The media frenzy around Hillary Clinton recalling the campaign of a great Democrat who was assassinated is 100% bullshit.

Anyone who falls for either is not just any dupe, but the kind of dupe who lets the media pick our candidates.
