Playback: Terry McAuliffe on MTP 13 days ago. R:"Something catastrophic?" A:"Absolutely."
Edited on Sat May-24-08 09:19 AM by chascarrillo
Transcript from Meet The Press, 05.11.2008, with Tim Russert interviewing Clinton campaign chair Terry McAuliffe:

MR. RUSSERT: But, but you will admit that she cannot overtake Barack Obama with elected delegates.

MR. McAULIFFE: Very--highly unlikely.

MR. RUSSERT: That--impossible?

MR. McAULIFFE: Nothing's impossible. Look, tomorrow--something new could happen. Nothing's impossible. You are talking to Terry McAuliffe. I don't believe anything in life is impossible.

MR. RUSSERT: But you would need an act of God or for something catastrophic to happen to the Obama campaign.

MR. McAULIFFE: Sure, something big would have to happen, I will give you that, absolutely.

For doing a thread on how egregious I thought his comments were. Especially that grin which I really took exception to..

8. I Remember This Vividly - And How Appalled I Was That He Said What.....
he said and that stupid grin on his face during his statement. I remember mentioning to my girlfriend right after he said this that - it was almost like he knew that something bad was going to happen to Obama or wishing something bad was going to happen to Obama. I thought then - how low can they go. I know there were some references to that interchange on MTP here on the DU board - but no real outrage. It took Hilliary to drive home that by herself yesterday.

10. I saw this, too. And thought it sounded ominous THEN...

At the time I thought he was *mostly* playing sly about some scandal being uncovered. Now I can't help but wonder if he was riffing on the assassination theme.

At least a little bit.

It was *very* "wink, wink".

16. Yes, they have. It may just be their faith-based campaigning
but it reads differently to the reality-based community.

17. Every time he says that.. or any of them do
it would make me sick. Not because I ever thought they were implying he could be physically harmed, but THAT, that waiting for something to come out that would damage him beyond rebound is distasteful enough. As if they were behind the scenes, looking for something, and it has been reported they were doing just that. What a way to win, and she was so much more "electable."

I don't recall any Obama surrogates saying things like this about her, ever. I don't recall hearing rumors of them looking for something that would politically eliminate her. But then he's been held to a different standard all along.

20. I remember that, I watched it. I thought it was sleazy, but just standard Clinton sleazy.
Like, hoping that their oppo research might be able to come up with some big fat juicy scandal or something.

The thing is, once you've gotten to the point where you're admitting that your only chance of prevailing lies in the hope that the other candidate is somehow rendered unviable, does it really matter whether that unviability is metaphorical as opposed to literal?

They want the nomination dammit, and they don't care how they get it. You might say, "all options are on the table".

28. McAuliffe and Assassination
It looks like the Clintons have a team working on the assassination of Senator Obama.
The spin team is preparing the country and setting up a "virtual alibi"...
They will say "See, we tried to warn him! If we were guilty, would we have tried to warn him?"

McAuliffe is part of the "spin team" not the "kill team".
The Clintons have not introduced the kill team, but if they did, it probably wouldn't change a single vote.

Hillary: Barack, this is Uri Deadmanow; he'll be shooting you in the head from very far away.
Barack: You people are murderers!
Hillary: Barack, that isn't helpful. We need to unite the party.
Clinton sycophants: Did you hear what he called her? It's outrageous!
