The lynch mob is at the gate
Sadly, Hillary revealed yesterday not what I think was malicious intent, but reckless and irrational thinking as a result of utter exhaustion. In her campaign's fragile state, I don't think she would ever intentionally suggest willful harm to Obama. That would be political suicide.

I do think she had a Freudian slip of sorts, and her assassination comment revealed something she never intended to so obviously surface. That she is desperate and the only path to a nomination is some bizarre or unforeseen calamity. One can't control their dreams and she might as well have dreamed it. Yet her dream was exposed. In fact, beyond the reference to Robert Kennedy - her entire original statement was rambling and disjointed. She is like a marathon runner who can't feel the pavement anymore.

I don't want to see Hillary tar and feathered and run out on a rail, and yet the stakes are so high. An Obama win this November literally may mean a far more peaceful and sane planet. And when we who support Obama sense Hillary's protracted fight may hurt that possibility, it is only fair to fight back. Ultimately, I hope Hillary has the grace to step aside very soon. I still think after all this, an exit in short order will salvage some of her political capital. There was a time when I worked hard to elect Bill and held Hillary in high regard. Somewhere along the way, the need or greed for power has morphed them into people I barely recognize anymore.

From a compassionate perspective, I really would prefer to see Hillary bow out with respect and dignity intact. Her campaign is almost off life support, so I am thinking lets let her campaign die in peace. It should end very soon. Hillary will be yesterday's news and we can focus all this energy on beating the real enemy...McCain and his war mongering minions.

But if Hillary is determined to artificially keep this tempest going well into the summer, all the way to the convention, then I'll get the (proverbial) tar. World peace is at stake.

peace~:)

19. Umm I thought she did have the right?
The voters will be the ones that decide in the end if she can go on so until the voting is done why end it early when she still might however unlikely win, after all this is not the republican party and we select our candidate and dont have it picked out for us by the party leaders do we?

8. I think it will...
Because the alternative is Hillary being drug through the mud to historically deep depths. I can't fathom party leaders allowing that to happen. If she keeps this going past June 10th or so, the new breed of anger directed at her will make last night's anger seem like a tea party.

Certainly, our good party leaders can see that?

18. I really want to agree with you,
but we've both seen it happening, She's not liked because she's a woman, because she's a Clinton or it's the media bias..etc.
The woman love to be the victim, and we've become enablers.

I do hope the party leaders can take care of this--and quietly....she portrays this image (STILL) that she is being "pushed" out...

... the more I'll view them as cowards, and the less I'll view our party as one of inclusion.

It's time to pull this thing back into the stable. On June 4th, Hillary's vanity campaign needs to end.

6. Saying something once is a fatigue-borne gaffe, or a Freudian slip. Saying
it on two or three separate occasions is a talking point and a strategy. She deliberately chose to use the word "assassination", same as she chose to use the words, "Hard working people, WHITE people" and "As far as I KNOW..." and "Change you can Xerox" and "Shame on YOU, Barack Obama!!" Why is this so hard to grasp? Why is it so painful to realize that she's just not a very good person?

9. A Freudian slip is a peek into the mind, the innermost thoughts and desires of the person.
Go ask a psychologist what he thinks of someone who said what she said.
He'll tell you she has had it on her mind for quite some time.

This wasn't the first time she said this, except this time she actually used the word "assassinate" to talk about it.

10. World Peace IS at stake. That's why, though I would have liked to, I have NOT been able to let her
off the hook of her IWR vote. While her supporters are right and she didn't vote FOR war, she DID vote for an at least 50:50 CHANCE that the worst things on Earth would happen. That vote was her ticket into the pResidential candidates' club and she knew it AND the rest of the world knows it too, so they've got to be wondering how safe they are around what, at minimum, appears to be another Neo-Con pResidency.

27. I do not believe Hillary thought Bushler would use hard evidence and diplomacy before starting a war
Edited on Sat May-24-08 11:55 AM by Swamp Rat
She knew what Bushler&Co was going to do all along, as did everyone I know here at DU way before it started. She opted for political expediency because she was planning on running for president this year as soon as she was sworn into the Senate, likely before then.

Hillary, like her colleague Lieberman at the DLC, is a Trojan Horse.

The DLC is the Left Arm of PNAC.

30. Exactly, Swamp Rat, my friend. The DLC IS the left arm of PNAC. At minimum, she would have to have
calculated that there was a 50:50 chance that a war would "happen". That risk was acceptable to her because she has what is Right and what is good for Hillary permanently equal in her head.

Obama ALSO made a calculation with his opposition to the war. It was the same TYPE of calculation, but for a different constituency. HC's calculation was for the constituency that consists of Neo-Cons and their Slaves. Obama's calculation was a bid for Us and she has NEVER demonstrated any interest in out bidding him for Us. She thinks talk about bringing the troops home will do it, but she's wrong on two counts: her history demonstrates that we can't trust her to CARE about our wishes about things such as Redeployment, Residual Forces, and Permanent Bases, AND what many of us are REALLY concerned about is WHY she made that vote in the first place. Her decision not to talk about how WE perceive that WHY, demonstrates that We are not her constituency. I'm sorry to say, So Be It.

17. We will know very soon.
We at DU can only shout out to our elected folk and remind them that we need their help to end it. I think the window to do this (relatively) peacefully is about 2-3 weeks. Past mid-June, it will get so ugly I'm not sure any damage repair could fix it.

one of the more rational things Hillary has said lately. if something were to happen to Obama, she'd like to be the best friend's shoulder to cry on. the whole "Florida and Michigan" should count as they are thing, now there is an irrational thought.

32. I don't see it as fatigue or exhaustion
Edited on Sat May-24-08 12:39 PM by MindMatter
She has, no doubt, run a vigorous, extended campaign and that takes its toll physically and mentally. But in this case, the statement was premeditated and delivered almost identically to the way she delivered it months earlier to Time Magazine. She was evidently counseled to not speak of assassination (as if any qualified candidate would even need such counseling) because she kept using the RFK reference, but was careful not to talk of assassination.

The fact that she made that change is ample evidence that her statement yesterday was planned and intentional, not the result of exhaustion.

Moreover, it it were just one of those gaffes that can come out with fatigue, she had plenty of time to gather her thoughts to make a proper apology. Not only did she not apologize, she didn't even acknowledge that she understand shy it is a problem to say that the reason she should stay in the race is because history shows that the leading candidate might be assassinated -- in June.

This is not fatigue talking. This is the real Hillary.

What kind of daydreams does she have? What kind of "what if" this or that happened scenarios go on in her head? With all her apparent mindset of entitlement--and frustration--maybe the comments offer a glimpse into thoughts she has had in the dark side of her mind...

I just wonder...
