Poll question: Did Hillary Mean To Say It?
Well did she mean it or was it just "one of those things." that can happen? A lot of discussion on the board today but it is all over the map. Let's find out where us DUers stand on this RFK-Gate thing.

Which road are you on?

10. Hahaha! You mean the poll won't go the way you want it to. It will be skewed, but not biased.
What you said sounds sort of like how when Republicans don't like certain facts, they call them biased.

All he was doing was to ask people to sound off. What makes the results 'biased'?

I am asking for everyone to participate. It is on a Democratic Blog.

It may not end up being something you agree with but it will reflect what those who answer the poll think.

2. Either she knew or she didn't. If she did, she shouldn't be President. If she didn't, she shouldn't
be President either.

It really doesn't matter what she *meant*. No matter what she meant, saying what she did disqualifies her.

I personally don't think she's an idiot, so *of course* she knew what she said. But it really doesn't matter.

8. She made the mistake of assuming that all Democrats had a basic handle on 20th Century History.
She was dead wrong, because a whole load of stupid people "took it the wrong way." And it's important to PANDER to those dummies, I suppose.

Back in 68, only thirteen states held primaries. Two held caucuses.

CA was the last one. IN JUNE.

There are people here who STILL think that there were fifty primaries/caucuses -- or more -- back then.

And who still don't get that she was comparing HERSELF to RFK. Not "Obama." It's not always ABOUT him. Really.

ON TO CHIGAGO is the same as ON TO DENVER. Get ready for a floor fight. And a deal or two in smoke-FREE rooms, perhaps.

RFK Junior is, as we all know, smarter than a lot of people. He's certainly smarter than all of those who have their balls in an uproar over Clinton daring to state HISTORICAL FACT.

It's too bad such a serious and highly disciplined presidential candidate doesn't have a better grasp on the Language.

22. Take a class in latter 20th Century History.
It's not a point of pride to get all irate when lacking a basic understanding of the events of that election year.

I personally don't believe that all of America is as STUPID as you seem to think. Some of them are employing faux poutrage for political reasons. That's a bit hypocritical, but understandable.

But some of them DID stay awake for that history class. And those who didn't are reviewing the events of those days and realizing that she wasn't even talking about Obama (everything HAS to be about MEEEEEE) but comparing HERSELF to RFK.

And RFK Junior said that you were WRONG to be OFFENDED.

So, whatever.

I don't really care what you think. Your mind is made up. But for the record, so is mine.

I'm amazed. that this intelligent, dynamic woman wouldn't see a problem with talking Assassination.
or you for that matter.

and if you read my post, I didn't say anything to imply anyone is STUPID. and I didn't even talk about History.

oh, BTW...I was a Political Science Major at Ohio State...don't lecture me on history. oh, and I guess I don't really care what you think either.

BOTTOM LINE:

A lot of us need to get over ourselves here.

It's really not about you, or any supporters, it's not about me...it's about the future of this country, our country.

I want the best possible candidate in the White House come January. the one with the most integrity, honesty and leadership ability. I want open and transparent government, I want a role model for my kids, I want a President I can be proud of, a President who can make foreign diplomacy easy. A President who can restore our standing in the world.

27. "Intellectual snobs" aren't always very smart. Alberto Gonzales went to Harvard Law.
George Bush went to Yale AND Harvard. Their education should brand them as intellectuals, but they're fucking morons.

Some of the smartest people in the world got their educations from the school of hard knocks.

They may not be Ivy League educated intellectuals, but they stayed awake during their history and current events classes back in the sixties, and they remembered what happened. Clearly.

Hunh.

The fact is that Kennedy who opposed Johnson's Vietnam agenda entered the race on March 16, 1968, stating, "I do not run for the Presidency merely to oppose any man, but to propose new policies. I run because I am convinced that this country is on a perilous course and because I have such strong feelings about what must be done, and I feel that I'm obliged to do all I can."
McCarthy supporters angrily denounced Kennedy as an opportunist, and thus the anti-war movement was split between McCarthy and Kennedy. On March 31, 1968, Johnson stunned the nation by dropping out of the race. Vice President Hubert Humphrey, long a champion of labor unions and civil rights, entered the race with the support of the party "establishment," including most members of Congress, mayors, governors and labor unions. He entered the race too late to enter any primaries, but had the support of the president and many Democratic insiders. Robert Kennedy, like his brother before him, planned to win the nomination through popular support in the primaries.

Kennedy promoted himself as a friend of the underdog and promoted racial and economic fairness, an open door, non-aggressive foreign policy, decentralization of power and social improvement. A central axis of his platform was to embrace the youth of America. Big business was Bobby Kennedy's enemy. Hardly can this be said of Senator Clinton.

Kennedy had only been in the race for three months when he was killed.

Hillary's comparison is delusional. This primary has been dragging on and on and on.

Hillary is not a stupid woman. She is very bright. In no way do I believe that she accidently conjured up the ugly assassination of Robert F. Kennedy. Sorry but I believe she was not so nicely slipping another red herring into her campaign.

And you all safe in Mass. don't know about what is going down here in Georgia, and threats the KKK have been making. This is a SENSTIVE matter, especially for people in the African American community -- a friend of mine, literally did not sleep one night she was so worried about Obama's safety because of these threats. that she was continuing on in the primaries just in case Obama met with the same fate as RFK, which would clear the way for her. Now that I've read her comments in context, I no longer think that. Now I think she was only pointing out that other primaries have lasted a long time too. Regardless of what her intention was, she really put her foot in it this time.

35. Perception is everything in politics. Whatever she "meant" is irrelevant.
Just like Michael Dukakis's tank ride. Or, the Willy Horton ads. Or, LBJ's daisy ad.

The public perception of what Hillary meant, on whatever level, i.e. she was talking about wanting Obama assassinated, or, anybody who makes such a gaffe is too dumb to be president, or, she was just answering a question, is the deciding factor.

In this case, Hillary blew it.

37. How could she NOT know?
As someone who was politically active during that time, took part in the social discourse that framed that era, how could she NOT know how her comments today would be taken?

A much better comparison, yet a much less incendiary one, could have been made to the 1980 primary season where Jimmy Carter and Ted Kennedy almost went to a convention floor fight. If that was what she intended to convey -- that a nominee isn't necessarily decided until the end of the primary season or after, she could have made her point without referencing RFK.

It was a subtle as a kick in the head, and I think it took major balls for her to say it and expect nobody to call her on it. It is irresponsible, reckless, and dangerous. Period.
