SUSA VP Polls - Obama beats McCain in OH, PA, VA - NM (tied)

From TPM. Can't take anything away from this, but considering it's been a tough 2 days, might provide for a welcome distraction:

I'm intrigued by the series of veep selection polls SurveyUSA released last week, putting Obama up against McCain with different vice presidential possibilities in a few key states. As noted previously, I'm skeptical about the significance of the veep matchings because I think much of the variance is simply a matter of name recognition. But each poll also has a straight head-to-head match without other names attached.

In Ohio, SUSA has Obama beating McCain by 9 points.

In Pennsylvania, SUSA has Obama beating McCain by 8 points.

In New Mexico, SUSA has Obama tied with McCain.

In Virginia, SUSA has Obama beating McCain by 7 points.

People seem to love Edwards in these VP match ups, at least by these polls.

2. This means Obama needs someone that voters have a history with as VP
Edwards is a well known and loved figure. He gives Obama credibility in the minds of voters, IMO.

3. Extremely good point.
Granted, it appears that once Obama gets campaigning and people start to know him, his numbers sky rocket, but reaching 60 to 70 million people is pretty tough. There will be people in this country who continue to say they "don't know enough about him", but if these polls are any indication, putting him with a known commodity gets his numbers way up.
