Horrible display of sexism from Obama today
Edited on Sat May-24-08 11:18 PM by democrattotheend
He accused Clinton of "stirring up" controversy over the Michigan and Florida delegates. His use of the word "stirring" invoked stereotypes of women being confined to the kitchen stirring the pot. All women in America should be outraged about his remarks, and should stay home or vote for John McCain to protest this horrible display of male chauvanism.

:sarcasm:

Sorry, couldn't resist! And I am a woman and a proud feminist, fyi.

I was going to post it with a sarcasm tag, and then thought "Oh god, I don't want to give them any ideas."

6. Well, I guess you're right on that one.
Everyone knows that a proud feminist would do as she's told by the other so-called 'proud feminists' and vote for Hillary - whether she likes it or not.

That's because the truly Liberated Woman refuses to let a man tell her what to do, while embracing the idea that a woman should tell her what to do.

34. Ask my ex-boyfriend
He called the other day (we're still friends) and I told him I wanted to rant about certain feminists and he was like "what????" He reminded me that I was always overly sensitive to anything that seemed even remotely sexist...I'm kind of surprised that I am having a hard time seeing sexism as the cause of Hillary's failures as a candidate. Sure, I've heard stuff on the news that sounded sexist and it bothered me, but somehow it just does not seem as widespread as many of her supporters suggest. I'm not seeing things through so much of a gender prism...I think Tim Russert would have declared it over after Indiana and North Carolina if she were a male. It may have been premature but I really don't see a gender bias in it. Maybe I'm just so blinded by my candidate preference, but even before I had one, I didn't find myself getting offended often about things that were said about Hillary, which surprises me a little bit.

I feel kind of badly for joking about it too, but that was literally the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the "stirring". No offense meant for any Hillary Clinton supporters out there. This primary race has made me scan words to see if they are gender neutral and could possibly cause offense. Though, as we all know, stirring SHOULD be seen as gender neutral anyways.

16. I know what you mean!
We've all become "sensitive" to certain words.

For weeks, every time I saw a newspaper headline about new legislation (e.g. "Bill would allow guns in bars"), I wondered what crazy thing Mr. Clinton was up to now!

Why do you do this? Isn't the gap between us already an abyss? I doubt that you would be so flippant if the roles were reversed. Learn some respect.

15. This sexism BS from Hillary isn't going to work. First, it isn't why she lost,
second she is running with her husband's name. It isn't Hillary many people are voting for it is Bill. They figure Bill will still be running the show and he will be there to help out the little woman.

35. Maybe they like Obama and it isn't that they don't like women. Is that even a possibility in your
mind?

The sexism cries have really gone off the deep end. You do realize that the person you responded to is a woman, so am I and so are many, many of the Obama supporters.

I support Obama because of the specifics about Obama. I don't support Hillary because of her individually, not her gender.

This making Hillary into a symbol of every woman is ridiculous.
