Past editions of THE MATH

What is this? THE MATH’s Daily Widget was created to track multiple daily sources which measure the potential success of Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. Projected Electoral Votes are on a scale of 0 to 538, with 270 being a majority, or projected win. Trading and Averages are on a scale of 0 to 100, with 50.1 being a majority, or projected win.

The Wigand Electoral Average uses public polling results to determine base states for both parties and a short list of swing states, and combines the actual electoral votes from base states with a weighted Intrade calculation for electoral votes from swing states to derive an average on a scale of 0 to 100. On this scale, greater than 50.00 is considered a win for Barack Obama. An average of 50.10 would yield 270 electoral votes, and an average of 100.00 would yield 538 electoral votes. 1. Intrade numbers: Red gets redder, while blue gets bluer
Midwest. People buying shares for Indiana and Missouri are increasingly skeptical of an Obama win in these two states in the general election, although they are both polling near the middle. But Iowa's possibilities for November keep gaining steam.

Pennsylvania is getting bluer by the day. It seems to be following in the tracks of Michigan and Wisconsin. Trading for Pennsylvania is what drove up the WEA Total today.

8. Wow, the only one that boosts Obama is Edwards, it appears
Everyone else drags him down below his +9 as compared to McCain alone. Surprised Janet Napolitano and Jim Webb aren't on that list. I wonder how they would compare.

At this point, I would bet on Edwards and Huckabee.

13. LMAO! This election is Mine Mine Mine, and I'll win it 538 to 0! :)
In a perfect world, there would be no red states. In order to accomplish that, I suggest we hire John Cusack to take his boombox to every red state and blast "Imagine" by John Lennon.

That'll learn 'em!
