Why Post? Why Say Anything? WTF Difference will it make?
Edited on Mon May-26-08 12:35 PM by JMDEM
At least this is what I have been thinking to myself recently.

I am just staggered at the series of events over the last few days. Hillary makes her insane comments -- just insane comments -- and anyone who has followed the issue knows why they are insane -- not just a slip of the tongue, but either planned, or a Freudian opening a window into a dark corner of her soul.

But whatever the reasons -- she could have easily defused the situation with an honest apology - an HONEST one -- but instead she has released a series of half-apologies, half justifications.

And NOW she has done a full reversal and is basically blaming the Obama campaign for the uproar! This is beyond the pale - beyond outrageous. And it is also pure Rovian -- take your weakest point, and smear your enemy with it. Call war heroes cowards while your own candidate is one of the worst cowards ever. Call your opponent out for slimeball outrageous statements while you are the one making them. This tactic actually works because the lies are so outrageous that people cannot comprehend lies of such magnitude, so they either believe the lies or get hopelessly confused. And apparently this is the current campaign strategy and is being rolled out in full force.

But the thing that completely staggers me is more than these tactics - it is the fact that her supporters find all of this quite acceptable! It doesn't matter what she says or what she does, they still support her! I see no apologies, no remorse from her supporters in GD-P. None whatsoever. Instead, I see an outpouring of "blame the victim" (even though I know Obama does not view himself as a victim in this case). Just amazing. Just sick beyond belief.

I think it is quite possible that Hillary could completely morph into Bush, and start saying things like "we should obliterate Iran" or similar war-mongering crap, and her supporters would still support her. It just doesn't seem to matter what she says or does - her supporters don't care.

1. This too shall pass.
A while ago Bonobo posted a thread on what we need to do to win against McCain. DUers from both supporters joined as one and presented some excellent, well thought out, strategies and tactics.

Once we come together behind our nominee, we'll be able to turn our frustration and righteous ire toward our REAL foe.

Just hang in there.

2. I take it that you don't think that seating FL delegates
ranks as important as abolition, women's suffrage, and the Civil Rights movement?

3. This is politics
Somehow Obama seems to do fine without the strong arm tactics. But most all politicians behave this way.

People in workplaces do it too. That is why there is such hypocrisy at times with the political correctness. People will use anything to win, except when all eyes are on them to not say certain things.

I would prefer we have a short elf for President, but it looks not to be.

4. I come here
for the warm, glowing fireside chats we have.

I like all kinds of things here and of course I could have a lobotomy and then I would be just like my Republican neighbors.

5. I find it amazing that people identify so strongly with a candidate that they actually allow that
candidate to dictate their own personal morals, beliefs, and ethics.

I would say that this country is ripe for a good propagandist. No one seems to think for themselves, at all, anymore.

I support Obama, but if he says or does something stupid, I will be all over him like shit on a stick.

A free critical thinking independent mind is something sorely missing in this country.

7. well the difference is that Obama has already admitted that he is likely to say
something stupid and when he says something in an unartful way then makes a sublime speech and makes us like him that much more.

I wish he would stop that lol.

6. For political junkies, we're really naive if we think there's a lick of difference
between any of the candidates--theirs or ours. Ok, maybe a LITTLE difference, but by in large they're all globalists and fascists and they're in bed with big bizness. And that's just the way it is. But I guess it makes us feel like our voices or votes matter if we can say this one's better than that one, this one really cares about me and that one doesn't, etc. So...I guess if it makes us feel better, that's something. Easier than realizing we our country is out of our control and that we are pretty much irrelevant.

I couldn't count the amount of times I've posted stuff to DU not because anyone will listen but simply because it was either that or scare the cats by screaming.

14. Posting doesn't make a difference, working for our candidate does...
imo posting sometimes leads to valuable conversations, but more often it's just a way to vent.

For me the most useful thing about this place is that I can check in and very quickly find links to lots of breaking stories, polls, etc.

They do post quite a bit though, so it looks like more support than it actually is.

If you just shift priorities a little, it's easier - KNOWING is the top priority.

You know - it is a rigged game. It doesn't matter what the "chosen" candidates" do, it's
preordained by The Money Party. She's chosen. Her money backers aren't through with her
and hubby, so she stumbles on from one foolish statement and action to another. When they're
done, she'll have another blooper and that will be the one that sinks her.

It's troubling trying to figure all this out if you assume that there's anything like a reflection
of reality going on. The only reality reflected is the reality we're served up by the worst
ruling class in the history of the world. The only thing they can do is lie. When you own the
media, that's easy. It's the hard stuff that bogs them down...
