In every national poll, Obama leads Clinton--but Hillary beats McCain while Obama sometimes loses...
Edited on Mon May-26-08 06:15 PM by Bicoastal
...so, basically it's the Hillary/McCain Democrats that are railroading us. Statistically, I can't figure out anyway around it.

But remember, she's still technically in the race, and they KNOW that polls are important to keep her campaign afloat. Is it likely that they'll change their minds if/once she's bowed graciously, and reality dawns that their choice for President is either McCain (R) or Obama (D)?

1. She's not in the race anymore. It is over.
The game clock still has time on it, but the final outcome is determined.

She's down 4 TDs with under a minute to go.

This game is over.

2. Unfortunately, the race is over when the MEDIA says it's over.
And as long as they keep polling Hillary against McCain and Obama, the race is still on.

I think the idea that the Clintons and their supporters are unwelcome in the party is a phenomenon that started in the "internets" but has made it into the "real world"...

This isn't neurosurgery or nuclear physics...Would you want to go to a party where you weren't wanted?

4. Well, you could interpret another way.
It may show that Obama supporters are less likely to vote Democratic if he does not get the nomination.

5. Dems vs Republicans is the race that matters
and Obama is a weak candidate in that race.

8. Thanks to your candidate, Dems vs. Republicans hasn't officially STARTED yet.
Or should we keep looking at the pre-Iowa polls showing Hilary getting her butt whupped by Giuliani?

Here, I'll qualify it for you
Has any candidate other than Bill Clinton won the election while beginning the primary behind the GOP opponent?

Truman was an incumbent and, as we all know, Obama is no Bill Clinton.

6. Yes, there are clearly Hillary supporters gaming the polls.
Is it predictable that some Hillary supporters are unlikely to tell the truth when asked if they will vote for Obama in the fall? Yes. Most of her supporters are cranky, old white people who understand what their answers to a poll mean. They're gaming the system. If they want to vote against their Social Security, their Medicare, and their prescription drug programs by voting for McCain, well they can do that. I doubt they will, however. In the end, they know they can't slide further backward economically, no matter how badly it ties their tail in a knot to vote for a black man.

11. I hope you are right and they will, in the end, support the democratic nominee.
I am not so sure.

Most of us have come out of a primary with someone other than our first choice but have voted for the nominee. Some Hillary supporters seem determined to vote mccain. I wonder if it is because they were so ready for a female president and think she was robbed, or if it is a complete dislike of Obama. (Voting against someone because of a dislike of his/her supporters makes no logical sense to me). Would the animosity be so fervent if it was someone other than Obama who was leading?

I hope, come November, you are right.

15. For those who might come back, we need 5 months to let that happen.
We need to finish this by the second week of June, so we have five months for the healing to occur. I know that many Hillary supporters think NEVER, but we will see.

13. RCP average
Obama up 3.1 over Mccain nationally. Clinton up about 1.9.

So Obama, on average, does better than Clinton against Mccain nationally:)

Rock on.

He'll blow McCain out. It won't be long now.

20. He's free to do as he chooses
there's nothing stopping him from scoring points against McCain now. He's been trying, but apparently he's not getting any traction.

Obama already has the support of the only base he can appeal to. He's burned bridges to the rest of the voters. He really has nowhere else to go for support. Don't expect those numbers against McCain to change.

17. Obama has insulted most voters already
he's going to have a really, really hard time picking up swing voters since he's spent so much time talking about how bitter, ignorant and racist they are.

How does he lure them back after saying such terrible things about them?

Well, Ozark, let's put the shoe on the other foot. Let's make the preposterous assumption that Hillary wins the nomination. how the hell does she lure back Obama voters? Especially when she has raised the assassination card about their candidate?

If Hillary got installed the nominee (no way she can earn it electorally) there would be rioting in the streets of Denver!
