I ***REALLY*** hope Obama has a plan to combat the voter suppression
Edited on Tue May-27-08 02:43 AM by FlyingSquirrel
and intimidation and all the dirty tricks that'll be happening in states like Florida to suppress the black vote (and other demographics).

He's had such a great organization and just played everything so well, I can't imagine that he'll allow this to happen without a lot of publicity and some kind of real help to the polling places BEFORE election day.

4. I can't understand what happened to all the enthusiasm
to implement change. It was such a hot topic the last two elections, but I've yet to see paper receipt legislation or ANY meaningful legislation on the topic for that matter.

6. Rush Holt (D-NJ) had an opt in paper ballot bill almost passed, but Whitehouse told repubs to oppose
It took years to get to the point where we had a decent federal
bill that would do more good than harm, and actually had bi partisan
support.

Then the Whitehouse sent word to repigs to vote against it.

16. Here...
...this is Holt's website - voting issues page.

http://holt.house.gov/voting.shtml

He was in a recount in 2000 also (his first term). He was my congressman at the time, I have since been redistricted, but I'm still on the mailing list because I gave him money right away because his election was soooooo close.

9. It is pretty depressing. When the Democrats take back Congress, and they will
in 2008, there will be NO EXCUSES

5. actually they passed HAVA in response to 2000 -but actually made things much worse
they encouraged computerized direct record voting machines.

That is how Georgia got its first republican governor and how
Max Clelland got beaten by a republican.

Florida's laws have gotten worse and worse since 2000,
making it much harder for certain groups to vote.

Obama can't change those laws.

12. There's a one-ton elephant in the room
sitting by a pile of stinking turds it has been releasing since 2000, and with a few exceptions, Congress has been saying "Stench? What stench?"

3. You might start with a visit to Barack Obama's website
sounds like you aren't familiar with his campaign and
how it helps voters.

Then perhaps some of your concerns will be addressed.

13. Well Organized Voter Protection Team
The Obama Campaign is very well organized on the voter protection/legal front. We had more lawyers out during the Texas conventions and were better organized than the Clinton campaign. I have been impressed with the organization of the campaign so far.

18. did anyone see Andrea Mitchell during the last primary coverage
say that some people in the Clinton camp don't think that Obama can win only because in some of the states that he may be more competetive with John McCain in (in the new electoral map), he would be up against the Republican establishment in many of these states and as Andrea Mitchell said, "Katherine Harris types", and would not get a fair vote? I was surprised that someone in the MSM touched on this.

22. Same as the other 48 states.
That's why it's the 50-State strategy - not the "to hell with the other 49 states" strategy, as the Florida Legislature might call it.
