"Barak can get shot going to the gas station.”
Michelle Obama in "60 Minutes" interview aired 2-11-07:

“I don’t lose sleep over it because the realities are that… as a black man… Barak can get shot going to the gas station.”

So quit bitchin about Hillary's comment when Michelle has said the same.

Shouldn't it be a requirement that you at least be able to the spell the candidate's name, who you are criticizing?

Hillary can win though. Obama's comment about "bitter" small town people clinging to their "guns and religion" didn't play well in the Ohio primary and won't play well in the general.

43. Not really. Blue states will go blue and red states red. OH and FL
decide the GE due to their large number of electoral delegates. HRC has a huge lead in OH and a slight lead in FL over McCain. McCain has a large lead in FL and a slight lead in OH over Obama. Obama is essentially locked out of FL and will lose in OH because of the demographics and his anti-gun and religion comment.

Pinning her hopes on winning Ohio is idiotic. If she wins Ohio, but loses even a single state that Kerry won, she loses the election. Kerry only won Wisconsin by 11,000 votes. Hillary could very easily lose WI.

Edited on Tue May-27-08 10:42 AM by Zodiak Ironfist
You are thinking about Pennsylvania. Ohio primary was in March, Obama's "bitter" comment broke on April 13th. What did affect the Ohio primary was Hillary's NAFTA lie. But now Ohioans (the ones not in Appalachia) know they have been lied to.

If you are going to be a shill, at least have some facts at your disposal. Your ham-handedness makes knocking you down as easy as shooting fish in a barrel.

She was asked if she worries about Obama getting shot because he's a black man running for President. All she said was that he can get shot going to the gas station, therefore they aren't going to let fear run their lives.

25. Michelle was asked if she was worried about Obama being shot
just because he was a black man running for President. She responded that he could be shot going to the gas station or doing any other activity, so it doesn't make sense to lose sleep and worry about it.

It's no secret that Hillary is staying in the race hoping that something 'big' happens to Obama. Terry McAuliffe should have denied it instead of confirming it a week ago on Meet The Press. Hillary's comment only went into feeding the frenzy anymore.

Look, I am willing to forgive Hillary's bad choice of words. I know that's not what Hillary meant. But you aren't doing her any help by dwelling on this subject. This isn't a winning point for her, so you should just move on and hope that people just forget it.

Statistically, that's what the percentage indicates. Considering the great relationship that the Clintons had with the African American community, both during and after Bill's terms, HRC should have gotten at least 55% of the African American vote.

KROFT: This is a tough question to ask, but a number of years ago, Colin Powell was thinking about running for president, and his wife, Alma, really did not want him to run.

MICHELLE OBAMA: Mm-hmm.

KROFT: She was worried about some crazy person with a gun.

MICHELLE OBAMA: Mm-hmm.

KROFT: Is that something that you think about?

MICHELLE OBAMA: I don't lose sleep over it, because the realities are that, you know, as a black man, you know, Barack can get shot going to the gas station, you know. So, you know, you can't -- you know, you can't make decisions based on fear and the possibility of what might happen. We just weren't raised that way.

77. Keep that head in the sand
that will make it all better. I realize people say things they don't mean. But you seem to be standing by what she said. And it was a horrible thing to say. I mean, lets just take off the table all the assassination comments that have been made previous by other people and assume Hillary is running against someone else. Why the hell would you bring up the assassination of Bobby Kennedy as a positive reason for you to stay in the race until June?

51. "the same"???
I wasn't aware it was Michelle who raised the spectre of RFK's assassination (only days after Teddy's brain tumor news) simply to gin up some sick justification for her refusual to face reality and drop out of a race she has no realistic or practical chance at winning. Oh, almost forgot....all the while promoting a false and illogical equating of the 2008 primaries to the 1992 and 1968 primaries, as if they were in any shade similar (which they're not).

Yeah....exactly the same. :eyes:

74. Michelle is paraniod. Remember her Princeton thesis?
"My experiences at Princeton have made me far more aware of my 'blackness' than ever before...I have found that at Princeton, no matter how liberal and open-minded some of my white professors and classmates try to be toward me, I sometimes feel like a visitor on campus; as if I really don't belong. Regardless of the circumstances underwhich I interact with whites at Princeton, it often seems as if, to them, I will always be black first and a student second."

"Predominately white universities like Princeton are socially and academically designed to cater to the needs of the white students comprising the bulk of their enrollments."

"... the path I have chosen to follow by attending Princeton will likely lead to my further integration and/or assimilation into a White cultural and social structure that will only allow me to remain on the periphery of society, never becoming a full participant. This realization has presently made my goals to actively utilize my resources to benefit the Black community more desirable."

80. Get A Grip Please, This Is Embarrassing.
It is clear as day that in context she was simply stating how it's not the end of the world that she's still in the running going into June, and that others have gone that long as well. No drama to it, no hidden agenda to it, no evil threats about it, just a clear and obvious reference to time. It really is an embarrassment to keep seeing so many here push the assassination meme, as if there would be any truth to it in a million years. Some really need to check their health.

93. Not An Ad Hominem At All. You Simply Need To Get A Grip.
You're overreacting and standing firm on a warped, skewed and completely irrational belief. There's really not much more logic that needs to be said other than get a grip, because the only real disconnect here is that you currently don't have one.

No, she wasn't implying impending assassination, and the declaration of such is quite asinine to the rational amongst us. Sorry if that bothers you.

100. Of course it is an ad hom.
You are substituting me for the argument. I am crazy, so my argument must be invalid.

You still haven't addressed the initial question/request. Explain the use of the Bobby Kennedy assassination rather than many other examples of the primary going to the June timeline. Why talk about assassination as a reason to keep going until June?

106. Wrong. Not An Ad Hominem At All.
See, an Ad Hominem would be if I was discrediting the argument based on who YOU are. In this case, I'm discrediting YOU because of what your ARGUMENT is.

Huge fuckin difference pal.

See, the argument is one of delusion and irrationality, and a sign of a mind that is having trouble seeing things clearly, logically and realistically. Because that's the argument you're waging and standing so firm with, it discredits you and your ability itself.

So no, not an ad hominem. Instead it's an accurate depiction of the situation. You simply just need to get a grip. :hi:

113. I still find it interesting
that you have not given an explanation as to why she used an assassination example when so many others are available to her since her only point was that June isn't so far to take the primary.

Keep avoiding the point though and convince yourself that it is I that has the problem.

"Yet the assassination reference wasn't Clinton's only mistake. In the same breath, she maintained that her husband had not wrapped up the nomination until June. In truth, he did so in March with the Illinois primary. While California made his victory a mathematical fact, the outcome had not been in doubt for months."
