So there's this slinkerwink character over at Kos, trying to do crazy things...
like make sure everything is set for the Rules meeting, and that everything is above-board and all of that. And also trying to ensure that the Obama counterprotest is peaceful and polite.

+1 activism points for slinkerwink!

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/5/27/64543/9662/904/522861

I'm asking others here to please recommend this diary for Obama supporters that live in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area. This is so Obama supporters can pre-register for attending the Rules and Bylaws Committee on May 31st, which will decide the outcome of Florida and Michigan delegations.

There's going to be a mass protest by Clinton supporters outside the Marriot-Wardman hotel, which is in Adams Morgan. I'll also be organizing a counter-protest by Obama supporters, and I already have a few signed up to go with me for the protest. I can't stress enough how important this is going to be, and why this should be on the recommended list.
...
I think the voter registration drive is a great idea. I suggest that we all show up at the hotel, and distribute whatever voter registration packets we can give to passerbys to register them, tell the media that we're there to register voters to show support for the Democratic National Committee so we can expand the party for the 2008 general election and then we can do a canvass across town to register people. If anyone wants to remain behind at the hotel to counter-protest, it HAS to be a peaceful protest.

1. No shouting at Clinton supporters.

2. Do not engage them to argue.

3. Smile, register voters.

4. Bring signs talking about Democratic unity, and how important it is to beat John McCain. Write quotes from the DNC's book on McCain on his many flip-flops.

5. John McCain is the real enemy here.

1. One of the responses on DK ==
from a DNC internet person -- indicates that all the spaces have been alloted.

And another poster has spoken with Obama HQ and got the impression that protesting wasn't what they wanted -- just smiling people registering voters.

22. No, but using your FL 2000 election analogy,
the arguments coming from some in the Clinton camp are more in line with LIEberman and the Repugs' push to count all military votes, regardless of whether they included a postmark or a signature/date. In other words, counting for the sake of pandering or increasing one's own margin, regardless of whether or not the votes are legal.

9. Let's see which argument resonates with the American people, "Every vote counts" or
"Party rules trump the voices of the people!"

10. I think the blatant hypocrisy of someone like Hillary who was fine with the rules 7 months ago
using someone like Terry McAuliffe- who enforced those same rules 4 years ago; is pretty fucking obvious.

You think you've got some issue that "resonates", but really it's obvious to everyone except a dwindling cadre of Clinton die-hards that this is a last-ditch desperate, hypocritical effort by someone who doesn't realize she's already lost.

Sorry. People in this country understand fairness, they understand rules, and they ALSO UNDERSTAND ABOUT WAITING FOR ONE'S TURN. (and no, I don't mean in the sense that "It's HER TURN! Waaaaaaaaah!") They understand that when a state like Florida or Michigan breaks the rules, there are CONSEQUENCES.

Period.

16. I know we've lived in an Orwellian World
for the last 8 years but our Country on the whole is so over that and now is not a good time for the bilarys and the mcauliffes to try and pull some more rovain style bushit.

I knew hilary shouldn't get the nom back when threw her vote in the ring for bush's War On Iraq.

20. That was really when she lost me. That, combined with her refusal to admit it was a mistake.
Oh, wait, I'm sorry, I just hate her because she's a woman, and I'm out to get her. :eyes:

"Senator Clinton: You lost because of Iraq, not sexism
But sexism is not what cost Hillary Clinton this campaign: Iraq was, and what's more, she knows it -- or at least she should know, because her staff does. On February 17, 2007 she told people who disagreed with her vote on Iraq to choose from the other candidates:

“If the most important thing to any of you is choosing someone who did not cast that vote or has said his vote was a mistake, then there are others to choose from,” Mrs. Clinton told an audience in Dover, N.H., in a veiled reference to two rivals for the nomination, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois and former Senator John Edwards of North Carolina.

Her decision not to apologize is regarded so seriously within her campaign that some advisers believe it will be remembered as a turning point in the race: either ultimately galvanizing voters against her (if she loses the nomination), or highlighting her resolve and her willingness to buck Democratic conventional wisdom (if she wins).

What she needed to do was admit making a mistake. Instead, she told her critics to buzz off. It was an arrogant decision, and it will go down as one of the worst in the history of Democratic nomination campaigns. It was the decision that sunk her campaign, and she owns it entirely."

13. Funny... that's how Republicans have managed to shape opinion...
nothing complicated, just slogans.

You're right, it's easier to use a catchy sound-bite than it is to get people to understand the fundamentals. It's a little sad that the Clinton people are going to have to resort to playing on fear and ignorance just like Republicans.

So... tell us how you want to see Michigan "counted".

24. OBAMA WAS NOT ON THE BALLOT....
Because his campaign followed the rules.

One person on the ballot is the same as thrid world countries. Of course Hillary won. Her name was the only one on there.

And this is fair, how???

Been a few threads today where she has been telling people to contact her for information on a counter-protest.
