4. Obama's great uncle helped liberate a Nazi concentration camp.
Freepers are upset when he said "uncle" instead of "great uncle."

(they're probably also upset a concentration camp got liberated.)

14. That's pretty damning
Hillary supporters? They used to be. Now that they know Hillary won't win, they will do anything they can to bring down Obama. They are doing the Republicans' dirty work for them just like Faux News.

13. Buchenwald and Auschwitz may be two different camps but the horror is the same...
This is BULLSHIT. Buchenwald and Auschwitz were both factory farms of extermination... When families of WWII vets tell stories, sometimes the details get mixed--but the essential truth remains the same. His great uncle helped liberate Buchenwald--now I hear morons parsing "liberate.

Assholes--cynical assholes...

Edited on Tue May-27-08 04:49 PM by beachmom
SAME LIES AS ALWAYS. Anyone else have deja vu all over again? War stories are always slightly muddled, but the basic truth of the time comes out from the vets. But the Right SMEARS the vets when a story doesn't check out 100% due to memories and technical inconsistencies. If you watch stories told by IRAQ VETS from this war, even things that happened a month ago, their stories never 100% jive.

I am absolutely disgusted by this smear.

18. Obama likes to tell whoppers ...
Consider Obama’s stirring tale for the Selma audience about how he had been conceived by his parents, Barack Obama Sr. and Ann Dunham, because they had been inspired by the fervor following the “Bloody Sunday” voting rights demonstration that was commemorated March 4. “There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Alabama,” he said, “because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born. So don’t tell me I don’t have a claim on Selma, Alabama. Don’t tell me I’m not coming home to Selma, Alabama”Obama was born in 1961, and the Selma march occurred four years later, in 1965. The New York Times reported that when the senator was asked about the discrepancy later that day, he clarified: “I meant the whole civil rights movement.”

24. You rubes make be laugh when you use the Bosnia trip as a metric
None of you have ever been to a worn torn country or a country undergoing severe civil unrest -- you have no idea what threats lurk in such conditions. And yet you worry about Obama going to a corner gas station in America.

Oooooh whaaaat sheltered lives you have lived.

she has been told over and over that this is a lie. But she knows it gets her money. So she continues her lie.. Very sad for her and her contributers.

30. For starters ... a) Buchenwald was not an extermination camp ...
Edited on Tue May-27-08 05:10 PM by Iceburg
b) Buchenwald is in Germany, Auschwitz in Poland

c) Auschwitz was liberated by the Red Army

That said all of the camps from WWII are a permanent stain on human history.

What is disturbing is that Obama can not get the facts straight about his own family's personal history and further, his lack of knowledge wrt. the US involvement in WWII is staggering.

He sounds more like Bush everyday.

31. you've got to be kidding
The point of his statement was that his great uncle witnessed first hand the horrors of Nazi concentration camps and that if affected his uncle deeply. And while Buchenwald was not an extermination camp, it was the site of tens of thousands of deaths and the soldiers that liberated Ohrduf encountered horrific sites -- piles of bodies, burned beyond recognition, starving, emaciated survivors, etc.

Yes, Obama got the place wrong. But he wasn't trying to give a history lesson, he was making a point about what those who have served this country have experienced and why we should be grateful for their sacrifices.

Let me ask you: if Obama's statement was "bush-like", how would you describe Hillary's comment about the source of her name or he claim to have been under sniper fire. Personally, I don't give a rat's ass about either. I expect politicians to embellish, and so do most people -- it never seemed to hurt Reagan. Do I like it? No. Would I decide who to vote for based on it? Of course not, since, as noted, everyone does it.

28. Both instances are stories TOLD TO HIM by his family. You are
bashing a kid, basically. He was told stories (you could say, by oral tradition, ha ha), and guess what? They are not always told 100% correctly or REMEMBERED 100% correctly. But would you not agree that he was NOT a witness to his own conception?

Sheesh.

23. Here we go
Edited on Tue May-27-08 04:39 PM by cbc5g
Obama - "I had an uncle who was one of the first troops to go into Auschwitz" in reference to why returning troops need care.

RNC - "Unless he was serving in the red army he didnt liberate Auschwitz"

And Bill Hemmer finally said it was Buchenwald and his great uncle but that it could kill him in the election (Which is what Fox wants)

29. As a young boy, listening to accounts of his great uncle's service...
Edited on Tue May-27-08 05:06 PM by Frustratedlady
probably included comments like, "Uncle ABCDE.....". It was the "uncle" for the person who was talking, but not Obama's uncle. If they had said, "Obama, your great uncle ABCDE served...."

They are grasping for straws, since Obama leaves them little to serve at their "oh, no!" banquet. They are starved for something to throw at him.
