I want ALL supporters to keep something in perspective
Re: "Getting out of Iraq"

Whether it is Obama, Hillary or Gramps, let's not forget one thing. WE ARE NOT GETTING OUT OF IRAQ.

Folks, they (at least the 2 on our side) can probably get enough troops home to get out of the 'field' but that will be about it.

We have built an embassy the SIZE OF THE VATICAN in Iraq. Enough forces will HAVE TO REMAIN to 'secure' that embassy. How many troops is that? IT IS THE SIZE OF THE FUCKING VATICAN (which is a CITY folks).

Let's not kid ourselves and let's TRY and keep things "real" around here.

Peace from an Obama supporter, a Veteran who was stationed in GERMANY for a number of years, a Liberal and a Realist.

4. Right on. Dennis Kucinich wouldn't have pulled the troops out of Iraq.
With $5/gal. gas, we are NOT walking away from those oilfields.

EVER

16. That's what is so fucked up about all of this
Whomever gets this job in Novemeber will not be able to fix all the wrongs inflicted by the Bush admin.

Iraq will be a constant bouncing ball between parties until we are "attacked" again or we try to take over the entire Middle East.

I do not envy the next Democrat president, it's gonna be a very hard job....

17. Samantha Power's comments could prove to be prophetic.
Remember when everyone was in an uproar because she admitted the possibility that what we're planning in 2008 might not be possible in 2009?

Fucking Bush. What a bastard.

25. So...if those of us who were so against this Invasion...are accepting we won't get out....
what does that mean? Anyone have any thoughts? Why are we even voting if we don't get out of Iraq? Because if we don't get outta there...we will have nothing left here for us to pay for anything in the US. Maybe Obama will pull "Rabbit outta Hat" and make the Iraqi oil fields function so we go back to 2.00 a gal. gas? "Times will Rock" and we can all buy SUV's again? What are the consequences of folks voting for someone who keeps us in Iraq...and we don't manage to get that Oil while our country goes further down the crapper pipes?

Edited on Tue May-27-08 06:47 PM by BeatleBoot
"A" cannot be "A" and "non-A" at the same time.

Real is good.

And I've been thinking the same about 2012. As you posted down-thread.

12. Likely an accurate perspective, but good luck with finding realists here,
or those who are enough in touch with reality to keep it real. Far too many here mistake what they really, really want to happen with reality and what will really happen.

But if we are loosing any troops, then we must get the hell out of there quickly.

26. I understand your point, the only thing is the city is there now.. so we either...
abandon it ( Probably the best answer) or attempt to man it (Probably a crappy choice) and what a waste of money. This leads one to believe that we should be getting rid of every Congress critter for allowing this to happen!

23. As long as we have any troops there, we will be losing troops...
The Iraqis don't want us there, period. Many of those who are fighting against us are Iraqis that just want their country back. A very low percentage of those who fight against us are al Quaeda or anything else.

 What happens to the empty promises that you and I might know are being made...when we stay in there for half of John McCains 100 years?

How do we pay for it? Where do the folks go that think that Obama will end the war?

You just had to pop my bubble. I have this silly fantasy that sometimes, once in a blue moon, sanity and justice can prevail. Perhaps I should ask my doctor if Xanax is right for me.

30. For someone (me) who has flat run out of hope when it comes to ANY
politician I did have a tiny bit of hope that the next president would SOMEHOW extract us from this nightmare. Don't know how it could be done but I figured it was just my lack of imagination. You have just confirmed my greatest fear.
