I understand that not all of his supporters have been as dignified as he. I think we'd all be better off if everyone on this board thought about the fact that their words and actions reflect on their candidate. But 'WWBD?' just plays into the 'personality cult' meme. It's an admirable sentiment, but Obama's campaign is probably better off without that terminology.

It's because I am non-religious that I am wary of the way Obama's campaign is branding him. I like the effort to enliven grassroots politics, but it doesn't overcome the tendency to portray Obama as a superhero. To be successful, I think, he should move toward the former and away from the latter. One of the big mistakes Kerry made was not responding strongly to the opposition's scurrilous lies about him. In politics, what the haters say very much makes a difference.
