If I lived in Michigan
Edited on Tue May-27-08 10:30 PM by Labors of Hercules
I'd be pissed as hell at Hillary Clinton.

"...Michigan is the example that tempts comparison with dubious exercises abroad, where only one candidate’s name is on the ballot and dissent is expressed by not voting, spoiling ballots or, in this case, voting “uncommitted.” And Mrs. Clinton should not demean herself by trying to claim the fruits of such a farce are not tainted." http://www.observer.com/2008/florida-michigan-farce

It sucks that none of our friends in Michigan had the PRIVILEGE to vote for Barack Obama, but that was the mess their State party created...

And if none of the votes go to him, then none of the votes should go to Hillary either. Got it? :grr:

1. I understand that the 'privilege' you refer to was removed at Obama's request
Others choose to leave their names on the ballot, if I'm remembering correctly.

4. Most major candidates took their name off the ballot, in accordance with the rules.
Hillary decided to ignore the rules. In other words, cheat just a little bit.

The same would have occurred in Florida but their were some process issues/legalistic issues that prevented that.

Voluntarily having your name on a ballot is participating, which is a violation of the rules they all agreed to and the pledge they signed.

But I know Hillary doesn't like to play by the rules.

5. The pledge was to "not campaign or participate"
... I _______________, Democratic Candidate for President, pledge I shall not campaign or participate in any state which schedules a presidential election primary or caucus before Feb. 5, 2008, except for the states of Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina, as “campaigning” is defined by rules and regulations of the DNC.

To not participate means to not participate.

The only way not to participate is to have your name removed. In Florida that was not possible because the names are included by law at the disgression of the Sec of State and he/she must include any candidate that is a viable national candidate.

2. What bullshit. John Conyers told Obama supporters in MI to vote "uncommitted" and they did....
....some 274,000 of them.

9. Whatever!
I live in Michigan and I was told that my vote would somehow count eventually. Voters were told to vote uncommitted for Edwards and Obama. Both chose to remove their name from the ballot. Hillary left hers on because it was not required for her to remove her name. The same spin has been going on here for weeks. Additionally, it was quite apparent that Hillary would probably win Michigan. Other candidates left their names on as well. I voted Democratic. Before I was told that the votes would count, I thought about crossing over and voting for McCain. I remember thinking that Romney was going to win the state and he did! Nice try there, the election was quite early and at the time nobody knew that McCain would be the nominee. How could they somehow screw with McCain when he really was not the frontrunner at that time?? Some democrats did crossover and some stayed home, but the message was there and compared to 2000, many more people voted in this primary that many say we knew wouldn't/doesn't count for anything!

Bottom line: If you do not live in Michigan, don't act like you know what happened here!

3. I live in Michigan, I couldn't vote for Obama. My wife either. It sucked.
The only way I will be "disenfranchised" is if our uncommitted votes count for nothing.

8. I don't think some people understand just how wrong it would be.
even to count the "uncommitted" votes for Obama and Hillary's votes for her.

You have to be given the chance to vote for Obama for there to be a legitimate election.

Otherwise, it shouldn't count. period.

6. I voted Uncommitted, best I could do... As long as Obama is our nominee I don't care. I will vote
for him in the GE, that is good enough for me
