Why is it that some of the same people who were willing to
excuse Hillary's assassination gaffe are now acting like Obama's Auschwitz/Buchenwald confusion is somehow the worst possible mistake any pol. has ever made, EVER?

In the spirit of party unity, I will not discuss the relative levels of gaffeness (yeah, I know it's not a real word), but instead will point to some truly terrifying gaffes repeatedly made by our COMMON FOE, Grandpa "Walnuts" McCain...

1. "As you know, there are al Qaeda operatives that are taken back into Iran, given training as leaders, and they're moving back into Iraq. --John McCain, Hugh Hewitt Radio Show, March 17, 2008.
(as we all know this is false, but that didn't stop McInsane from repeating it twice more in the same day)
"John McCain was obliged to correct himself after telling reporters that Iran was
training al-Qaeda operatives, who were then moving back into Iraq to engage in
terrorist activities. The Arizona senator made this claim at least twice, first
in an interview with conservative talk show host Hugh Hewitt and then at a press
briefing the following the day."

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/fact-checker/2008/03/mccains_foreign_policy_gaffe.html

2. "It was al-Sadr that declared the ceasefire, not Maliki," said McCain. "With respect, I don't think Sadr would have declared the ceasefire if he thought he was winning. Most times in history, military engagements, the winning side doesn't declare the ceasefire. The second point is, overall, the Iraqi military performed pretty well. ... The military is functioning very effectively."
(Of course, this is not the case, it was the Iranian government and members of Maliki's government who brokered the ceasefire
NOT Sadr: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/06/mccain-gets-facts-wrong-o_n_95297.html)

3. " McCain asked Gen. David H. Petraeus about whether Al Qaeda in Iraq (AQ-I) is a "major threat," without also noting that McCain went on to ask of Al Qaeda in Iraq: "Certainly not an obscure sect of -- of the Shiites all -- overall?" In fact, AQ-I is a Sunni Muslim, not Shiite, group."
(McCrazy doesn't even know who we're fighting: http://mediamatters.org/items/200804090003 )

I am sure there are so many more, but a good place to start looking is: http://www.mccainpedia.org/index.php/Main_Page

Jeezus people, let's take our collective head out of our collective ass and wake up to what's at stake!!!!!!

1. Because everyone loves "gotcha" politics.
It doesn't require a lot of thinking and can be fairly rewarding.

4. Same people
They also the same people who are always calling for civility from supporters of other supporters, but at the same time feel they themselves can insult others with impunity. Sorry to hijack you thread, I'm just pissed off about another thread.

5. Becasue they got all excited, and thought that he lied as bad as hillary has....

they thought they could say HA! see Obama is just the same as hillary. He's lying about a relative liberating a death camp and it never happened.

They attacked before realizing the story was true and accurate, save for the name of which camp was liberated.

Now they once again have egg on their face for attacking a misstatement, while they continue to defend outright lies like the sniper fire bullshit.

The hillbots are now on record as disrespecting our honored military heroes from WWII.

OK...
even if I stipulate to all those facts (which incidentally I pretty much do), the real problem is McCain, the hillary supporters will either come around because they are democrats first and "hillbots" second, but the whole point of what I posted is that, while I in no way equate Hillary's assassination "gaffe" (I'm being kind here, play along) and Obama's confusing Auschwitz with Buchenwald are small potatoes compared to the danger that comes along with a McCain presidency. This is a man who is either too stupid to get his facts straight on matters vital to foreign policy and national security, or (and this is the one I believe), is so crazy that he is willing to say any dumbass thing to give him an excuse to attack Iran...

C'mon, this is the big stuff :hi:

7. This latest "gaffe" has got me thinking Hillary is now irrelevant.
After reading the gleeful piling on from the most rude Clinton supporters on this site, it finally hit me. We're now in GE mode. This issue more than any has convinced me we've moved past this primary. This manufactured outrage from the Republicans is an Obama/McCain issue. The two presidential candidates.

Clinton supporters piling on now do nothing to improve her chances of taking the nomination (now standing at 0%). What they do accomplish is furthering divisions within the Democratic party, and help the Republicans tear down the Democratic party Presidential candidate.

9. You are so right, we should ignore the Hillary naysayers from now on and concentrate on McCain.

They are still looking for their voice, evidently, anyway.

We know what we want to say already.

8. McCain is running a 3rd term for Bush and he is beat before he gets started.
We know how much Bush lied, but McCain is trying to totally re-write his Senate record and flip-flop on everything he ever stood up for or against.

McCain has no chance of winning and we are gonna pound it into the ground.
Every single day.
Every single week.
Every single month.

Until November 4th.

11. Right: candidates make gaffes all the time--but let Hillary Clinton
Edited on Tue May-27-08 11:52 PM by BenDavid
just mention the historical fact of RFK's horrifying assassination as a way to highlight her own continued hopes for the nomination and she is crucified by columnists and Obama's campaign. I, for one, am tired of the double standard protecting Obama. As Mr. Obama says repeatedly: "don't attack me, don't attack my family, that's old politics;" but its OK for his campaign--never Mr. Obama himself--to raise allegations of racism or, in the RFK matter, imply strongly that Hillary was hoping--incredibly--for harm to come to Mr. Obama.

But it was Michelle Obama that said "as a black man . . . Barack can get shot going to the gas station,” Honestly, do you think obama pumps his own gas? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Now just who was Michelle talking about that was going to be the shooter? A white man? A black man? An hispanic man? WHO?

12. If you're just going to keep spewing the same old shit...
start your own freaking thread. I retract the previous statement, you are degenerating daily, race is your only obsession "Now just who was Michelle talking about that was going to be the shooter? A white man? A black man? An hispanic man? WHO?"

This thread was supposed to be a starting point for focusing on McCain no matter who gets the nomination for the Democrats and you had to crap on my parade....
