Republican Rasmussen poll has McCain up only by 6 in Mississippi
McCain 50%, Obama 44%

If Obama can turn out every single black voter in this state, he might be able to do it. If he is only down 6 in a poll done by this patently biased Republican pollster, I imagine that the real polls would show it even closer.

1. Not a good poll.
Neither candidate will come within 10 in Mississippi.

7. HIllary plans to run a 21 state general election strategy
And to the other 29 states, she says "NO WE CAN'T!"

10. And you think Obama is going to run a 50 state strategy in the general?

Talk about being naive.

In presidential elections, you pick your spots and you spend the majority of your money on the Top 10 swing states you think you can flip.

If you think Obama will spend any money in red states like Mississippi and Alabama, you are delusional.

17. Lower that number down by 20-25 states and you might be on to something.
Obama has nothing to gain by wasting money in Mississippi, Alabama, Idaho, North Dakota, Texas, etc. He' be better off spending most of his money in Ohio, Florida, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

18. Yeah, Hillary listenend to every bit of conventional "wisdom"
out there....and she's doing swimmingly!!!

In case you weren't paying attention, Obama has changed the game completely.

The conventional wisdom doesn't count.

20. In the general election, conventional wisdom hasn't changed.
And it won't this year if St. Obama is the nominee.

Each campaign will target 10 swing states that they think they can flip. That hasn't changed for a while, and it won't change now.

21. He already has. He has set up operations in each state so when he gets the nomination
he is ready to go.

Talk about naive is right - you actually think that Obama is running this campaign like everyone before him has. He's running it differently.

Maybe you saw it in the OP.

6. Yes, and it's a huge outlier.
Anybody who thinks Obama or Hillary will come within 10 is clueless about Mississippi's voting patterns and trends.

What were you saying about being clueless about Mississippi's voting patterns?

12. Obama isn't from the South.
In case you forgot, Al Gore is from Tennessee.

Barack Obama's performance in MS will be similar to Kerry's performance in 2004.

16. John Kerry wasn't running against John McCain
who's running for the third term of the most hated president in history, after a hurricane devastated Mississippi and was ignored by McCain and Bush.

22. and you know this how? Oh that's right, you pulled that out
of thin air. McCain will be forced to spend time and resources in what should be safe states for him. That's good.

3. Rasmussen's polling technique, while controversial, has proved very accurate this season
Edited on Thu May-29-08 12:51 PM by Rowdyboy
As a lifetime resident of Mississippi the results sound believable to me based on what I hear in my community. Just a week ago we elected a new Democratic congressman in a heavily Republican district here. People are just as fed up here as everywhere else.

Anyone who doubts Obama's strength in this state is simply talking out their ass.

19. He's part of the reason I think Obama has a legitimate chance in Mississippi....
Add in an enormous black turnout and anger at Republicans and, in a "perfect storm" Mississippi could go Democratic in 2008.

7% to 14%. (edit- in Mississippi. http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/05/black-youth-and-latino-turnout-and.html)

I wonder how accurately the 18-29 demographic was accounted for in the Rasmussen poll.
